Boys and Dress Up...
When I picked Thomas up from daycare yesterday, he was the last kid there, and he was dancing with four of his teachers and they were all chanting, Go Thomas! Go Thomas!! It was so cute! He was having so much fun.
They told me that they also played dress up and Thomas was Tinkerbell and he loved it! I thought it was cute, but I told my husband and he was SO mad!! He was like why would they do that to him!! I said he’s a baby (he's two) and doesn’t know the difference between boy costumes and girl costumes… I don’t even know if they have boy dress up costumes and he’s always the last boy there with two girls so sometimes he plays with dollhouses, pushes baby carriages, carries a pocketbook and dresses as Tinkerbell. DH gets so mad. I don’t know if Thomas picked that costume or if the teachers put it on him because they thought it was funny. I know they didn't force him to wear it or anything, he probably wanted to dress up like the other kids who happened to be girls.
It doesn’t matter right? Can any harm be done by letting a toddler boy dress as Tinkerbell?
Thanks!

Oh tell DH to stop whining like a girl
Seriously tho, its fine, just b/c he dresses up in whatever doesn't mean ANYTHING. Christopher LOVES my shoes
I actually think that him not knowing the difference is a GOOD thing! There is plenty of time for that

Re: Boys and Dress Up...
I don't see a problem with it. DS has some pirate costumes he likes to dress up in, and the other day we were playingoutside and he saw my cover up. It was a white cotton dress and he wanted to put it on. So I put it on him and he twirled around and said, "mommy, I'm a ballerina." I thought it was adorable. DH was not thrilled. I told him to get over it.

Re: Boys and Dress Up...
When we went to visit my gf and her two daughters, our kids decided to play dress up. My 8 year old son was dressed as a cheerleader and my 6 year old followed suit in a princess get up. They were voguing and everything to entertain the crowd.
It didn't bother me or my husband one little bit.
My boys also don aprons when they cook with me. They don't have flowers on them - but they are bright yellow!
So.. no. I don't think it's a big deal. I never really get what people think breaking out of traditionally assigned gender roles will 'do' to a child.
And it's dress up. Dressing like a girl or Tinkerbell doesn't make him anymore of a girl or Tinkerbell than dressing like a monkey or a ninja would make him those things!

I know its ridiculous and sexist and just outright silly, but that would totally bother me.

No, it wouldn't bother me at all.
I don't think it leads to gender confusion or anything-they are just kids!

(i'm applauding not because i agree with you, but because you told the truth even if it means you're going to be tarred and feathered. I like that.)

Re: Boys and Dress Up...
I have to find the picture of my nephew around 2 years old naked as can be wearing my sisters heels and her pocketbook over his shoulder
To answer the question...no I could care less. Of course my boyfriend would make a comment(to be manly ) but I don't think he would really care. He def wouldn't get mad about it.
