brand new hardwood floors
has anyone gotten brand new hardwood floors layed in their home? i know a lot of people get them sanded and stained and whatnot, but i think we are going to have to start from scratch. just wondering if anyone has done this, who they used and what kind of cost it is. thanks!

Meaghan729 did this, and I think MrsFlatBread put new hardwood floors down at their new homes. FM them and check their albums cause they've posted photos.

Re: brand new hardwood floors
It depends on how much square footage you're talking about, what kind of wood you want to get.. are you going to do it yourself or have someone install it for you?
unless the floors are in terrible shape with gouges, holes, etc. it is much more cost effective to have them refinished instead of replaced.

Re: brand new hardwood floors
yes I did! (well, FH did)
pics are in my album
We had 300 sq ft existing hardwoods in OK condition. we wanted to add 120 sq. ft. to match it (because we took a wall down). we were quoted $3500
we ended up buying prefinished hardwoods (yes, they are real hardwoods, you can get them sanded)
420 sf + 10% because you will not be able to use every piece, cost us $1300 (to rent the nail gun at HD for two days wa $80 and FH has an air compressor for the nail gun)
it took FH two days, and they look fabulous.

Re: brand new hardwood floors
We did pre-finished hardwoods also.
Cost us about $8,000 for 1,300 square feet. ETA - we had them installed.

Re: brand new hardwood floors
we're buying my grandfather's house and it's all carpet - we haven't lifted it at all yet to see what's underneath, but my mom doesn't think there's hardwood floors underneath there, which would mean we'd have to start from scratch as opposed to getting them refinished. trust me, if we have the option of just refinishing, i will definitely go with it! we would definitely get it professionally done; i was just curious where to even begin. thanks!

Re: brand new hardwood floors
The guy who refinished our floors charged the same amount to have new floors layed ($2.00 sq/ft 3 years ago)
