Brandy's, Duplex, or Long Island piano bars
DH has a milestone bday coming up. Unfortunately, we just can't afford to have a big party this year, and there's no room in our home to host one. So I'm trying to plan something fun to commemorate. Last year we went to Brandy's piano bar in the city with some friends. We had a blast. But I'm hesitant to go again this year because, 1) it seems less special since we did the same exact thing last year, and 2) (my bigger issue) the place is so small, I'm afraid if everyone's not there early enough we'll have a difficult time all sitting together.
We've never been to the Duplex. Can anyone tell me about it? Are there any similar places on Long island (Nassau or Western Suffolk)? We'll be going on a Friday night. TIA!

Are you talking about the Duplex in the village? I used to go there often with friends (who were gay) years ago, it is very much a gay bar. If you and DH are looking for that kind of scene it is a fun place. But, it is small and gets very crowded.
Rose's Turn was a great piano bar we used to go to and sounds like it would be perfect for what you are looking for. They closed though

Don't Tell Mama is fun but it's also really small.
How about Cafe Wha ? I love that place. The live music is always great and everyone sings along, there is usually a bit of a comedy show, and you can make reservations and get large tables. Those who like dancing can dance (in the tiny space) and those who like to eat and drink can do that :) It's also right on bleeker, so you have a lot of affordable food spots to choose from if you wanted to do dinner beforehand.

I will look into those. I wish there was some place like this on LI. Not for us so much as I know more people would come if it's closer.

Not a piano bar...but every Friday night at 9:30 (not in the summer i dont think?) Black Forest Brew Haus in Farmingdale has dueling pianos!
Its a lot of fun! the 2 times i've been, we just stood around the bar area, but I believe you can reserve a table up front, right in front of the pianos.
Also good if your DH likes beer
