we've done lunch and while the meal isn't great, it's nice to sit in the a/c and the kids love all the characters coming over. They do some songs too.

I thought it was definitely worth it...not for the food, for the experience. Most of the characters walk around and "talk" to all the tables (with the exception of Elmo, I guess because he's the most popular (or they want to try to screw you out of more $ for the pictures.  )). A year later, my girls still always talk about when "Bert ate Abby's breakfast!"

Totally worth it.
Kids get to dance with them, they were pretty organized with the food and the picture taking and each character comes to the table for a visit.
