Re: breaking up DD shots (2months today)
They may not split them at all, have you asked your ped about this already? Some offices have a policy and whatever it is, being splitting or not, that's the policy.
That said, it hurts worse for you then it does for them, trust me. DS cried, more like screamed, I'll be honest when he got his first shots at 8 weeks, but then it was over and he was fine. He got some Tylenol and took a long nap....woke up and didn't remember any of it of course.
If you truly want to split them for another reason beside her crying, then you do need to speak with your ped to see if this is allowed in their practice.

Re: breaking up DD shots (2months today)
i have done this.
they always think im crazy and try to con me into doing it all in one visit by saying "well, if you seperate them, you have to come back each time and pay a co payment for each visit, as opposed to one co payment for a visit with all the shots in one." but i don't care....i just never felt comfy with giving my baby all these shots in one visit...they are so small! (to each her own, though)
the docs like to do it all in one visit, as it gets it out of the way and is less pain for the baby, but do u remember getting a shot as a baby? i know i don't!
i don't like them saying to give tylenol and advise that they may be cranky for a few days and have a slight fever...all that stuff scares me...the less the better!, IMHO
they will tell u when to come back..but just a word of advice, if you put them on a slower schedule for shots, keep track of it yourself...dont go by them...i always fear they are gonna get a duplicate shot or something if they are on a slower schedule, so i like to stay on top of this stuff....docs and nurses are human, and everyone can make a mistake
just remember to stick with what u are comfy with...when the doc tried to get me to do it her way, i inquired about how long the flu shot had been around for, as i am 25 and dont recall ever getting one ...she looked at me blankly and said she wasn't sure, as she has only been practicing medicine for ten years, and wasn't sure of the protocol in 1984.
stick with your gut feeling and do as you wish. you have your best intentions for your child.

Re: breaking up DD shots (2months today)
i only give 1 shot per visit.
my DD is 3 months old...
we did more or less the same with DS... when he did get 2 shots at once, it was only 1 live and 1 dead.
i would never (personal choice) give more then 2 shots at a time and with DD i am not giving more than 1 at a time

Re: breaking up DD shots (2months today)
I didn't want to either b/c it does sound like a lot, but we are following the dr.'s schedule and trusted that it was going to be okay.
And DD did great! She cried for a few minutes after getting the shots, then slept a while and had a short cryfest a few hours later (she never cries for no reason so i'm sure she was sore from the shots) but was back to her normal self that night... didn't even give tylenol or anything.
Good luck!

Re: breaking up DD shots (2months today)
Like the PP's have said.. the doctors may let you, you just have to ask.
I agree that you need to keep very close track of when she had her shots and what so they dont try to sneak a few more in.
I am one who doesn't care so much about the crying as the fact that I am against the overdosing of my child with so many shots. I limit to two, unless its the MMR which I couldnt get split up and limited to just that one by itself.
AJ got a chicken pox shot on the 21st and still has a nasty red area with raised bruised looking lump. I wait a min of 6w before the next shot.
Good Luck! Its a lot of work but if you believe in what you're doing you can make it happen!

Re: breaking up DD shots (2months today)
Hi, ask your Pedi. My DS get 2 shots per visit. I don't care if I have to go back more often. I go to NorthShore group in Huntington.

Re: breaking up DD shots (2months today)
We went every month for the first 8 mths...only 2 shots per visit was my max. And so that;s what we did. And yes, I kept very strict track of what was given and when next one would be able to be given. I figured it all out in case they messed up but they did always get it right too...
how are you and what did you do? First shots killed me...it does get easier. I promise. But not too much, lol.

Re: breaking up DD shots (2months today)
My peds office only gives two shots per visit max at any point in time. If I remember correctly for his first shots DS got the HIB and the DTaP. HTH!
