Breast Cancer...
My 37 year old aunt was just diagnosed. 2cm tumor and they just got results back that it is in her lymph nodes.
Just curious to know if anyone has experience...either themselves or fam. member...what their course of action was etc...They are meeting with the top surgeons but obviously are terrified. They have two small children, it's just devestating that my aunt is going through this.

Re: Breast Cancer...
My grandmother was recently diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer that had also spread to her lymph nodes and into her hip. She went through a course of radiation (she wasnt a candidate for chemo) and recently had a mastectomy. She is older, 82, so her options were limited.
There are many women who fight breast cancer and win. Has she gone to the breast cancer center at Stoneybrook? That is where my grandmothers dr's are.

Re: Breast Cancer...
My mother is a survivor... She had stage 3 breast cancer, it did yet get into her lymph nodes. she was 53 when diagnosed. she had a double mastectomy, plus several lymph nodes were removed and about 6 months of chemo.
since your aunt is so young, i would say they will be aggressive. they will definitely do a lumptectomy (where they take out the lump--i had one last year). they may have to do a mastectomy, which is quite common. they will also remove all the lymph nodes with cancer that they can. once it's inthe lymph nodes it's very serious as that is your immune sysyem, so imagine theydo radiation.
to her.... i also have the name of a WONDERFUL breast specialist and surgeon as well as an oncologist based in Rockville Centre if she needs one. they saved my mom's life...

Re: Breast Cancer...
Best friend of mine got diagnosed with it a year ago (stage 3). She is 32 years old mind you .
It went into her Lymph Nodes as well. She got the lump removed as well as the lymph nodes that were affected.
She went through a very intense round of radiation and Chemo because she was so young.
THANK GOD!!!! She is doing great and last check up she was cancer free.
to you and your family and my prayers are with you all.

Re: Breast Cancer...
My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer last year at the age of 58. Thankfully it did not spread to her lymph nodes. She had a lumpectomy, and then was re-opened a week later when it was discovered microscopic particles of cancer were still floating around. She had 5 chemo treatments and 5 straight weeks of radiation every day. She finished her radiation last week and her hair is starting to grow back. It seems that she is going to be just fine.
