Breast Feeding Moms
hi Ladies,
I have been exclusively BF for the past 3 weeks.
Today, I pumped a bottle for DD because I had to run an errand and I am not comfy BF in public.
My DD sucked a little bit but I know she realized that the nipple was not mommies.
So my question is, for those of you who do pump your milk for day and/or night feedings....how were you able to transition your DC to take the bottle.
I have a few appt's over the next few weeks and I will need DD to be able to feed from a bottle because I will have to leave her home with Daddy.
So please help. Any suggestions is appreciated. RIght now I have been using Avent bottles. Should I try another?
TIA

Re: Breast Feeding Moms
I would try a lot of different types of bottles and have daddy do the feedings at first. My niece never took to the bottle(they waited the 6 wks the doc told them and by then it was too late) so its good you are starting this now.

Re: Breast Feeding Moms
We transitioned DD with a few different techniques. We started with DH giving her bottles. When I tried it just didn't work...she knew I was the source so why settle for the bottle. Also, I tried to not be within sight & remained quiet so DD wouldn't see or hear me. DH also never held her in the cradle hold which may have helped. He used to put DD's back against his chest and lean back. We used to try to distract her too with one of the Baby Einstein DVD's. I think all of these things helped us but it still took a few days of consistent trying.
We didn't transition until 3 months so it was probably even tougher for us than it will be for you. Be patient though it may not happen overnight. Good luck!!!

Re: Breast Feeding Moms
Hi! I have been breastfeeding my son for almost 6 weeks (6 weeks Tuesday). I pumped on a few occasions either to have bottles for my husband or mom to feed him while I ran errands or when we were driving to see my mom and dad an hour away (he eats almost constantly!) I use Platex drop ins with the slow flow silicone nipples. My son took the bottle almost immediately from my husband. He was hungry so he was crying. He cried for a few seconds with the bottle in his mouth until he realized milk came out of it! He since then has taken a bottle from me, my mom and my sister and has had no problems going right back to the breast.
Let me know if you have any other questions. I read previous breastfeeding posts from you and I too am struggling with the frequency of feedings and how exhausting it is! Maybe we can offer each other support! Hang in there!

Re: Breast Feeding Moms
At about 6 weeks my DH gave my DS a bottle every few days or so. He held him similar to the way I held him ( close to his chest arm under his head etc.) and I stayed in another room. My DH used both Dr. Browns and Avent and he said Avent worked better for him so thats what he uses now with a size 2 nipple. My DS is 6 months and I have never given him a bottle but my DH takes care of him during the day while I work and gives him bottles then. I pump so the bottles arents formula always breastmilk. Its never been problem for us. FM anytime with questions.

Re: Breast Feeding Moms
I was told when we first started to pump, to have daddy do the feeding with me out of the room. She was pretty good with taking the bottle at first, but then we did have a couple of times where she wanted me instead. I think you just have to keep on giving her the bottle somewhat consistently (maybe one a day to start) so she gets used to two different nipples. The lactation consultant I spoke to said that it should be started by 3-4 weeks so that she doesn't completely reject the bottle. I hope that helps!
