Bringing this up again....can my DD's Pediatrician REFUSE to split up her MMR shot???
I am just so livid over this. How dare a Doctor tell me that she can't split up a shot that is so controversial....this is my child and I should be able to have the shot administered how and when I want it.
Please tell me she is breaking some sort of law by refusing to split up the MMR shot into three separate shots?? I am doing searches on the internet, but so far I haven't found anything....

I think some doctors don't order the shot split up so all they would have in stock is the full MMR. You would think though with all of the recent concerns that they would try to accommodate parents' wishes.

some pediatricians refuse to do it.. i think for billing reasons.. i have actually switched pediatricians for this reason

I don't think it's illegal for them to refuse to split it.
It is illegal to give it to her if you request them not to.
I'd find a new Pediatrician.

I do believe the split version of the shot contains Thimerasol. The full version does not. You might want to do some more research on it. Your DD has a long time before she even gets that shot so if you are adament on getting it split, I personally would look for a new Ped.

You could also jusrt delay the shot. Damien didn't get till he was three.

This is where we are at. DD doesn't go back to the doctor for a well visit until she is 3 and we refused it at her 2 year appointment.
I would do this route if she refuses to split it for your.
Your other option is to offer to pay out of pocket for the split doses. She may do it then.

It is not illegal for your ped to refuse to do it.
You need to make sure you are on the same page as your ped. If you are not, you will "battle" over every issue. You want to trust your ped and his/her recommendations.
I would switch ped.

Thanks all. I do have a long time before she gets it, so some things may change. I just want to know as much as possible before we get to that point.

You can delay the MMR and if your doctor supports that, then that's great. I delayed the MMR for both my kids until they were two. But, my ped recommended not waiting too long after 2 yr. old b/c the kids start to have more contact w/other children and their risk goes up. I was pretty safe since we don't fly on planes nearly at all, and my kids don't go to daycare. Just some things to consider tho, if you plan to delay.
