Bronchitis - can you get over it in one day???
I've had bronchitis before and I was REALLY sick - coughing, pain in my chest, etc. It took like over a week to get better.
A co-worker called out sick yesterday because she was diagnosed with bronchitis on Monday afternoon. She said she's only on day 1 of the antibiotics so she's still not feeling better. She's back at work today.
At no point before this or after (aka today) have I seen her even cough - I didn't even know she wasn't feeling well. So it's just total curiosity on my end - are there different "levels" of having bronchitis where this would make sense? Or can I assume she's totally faking?

Re: Bronchitis - can you get over it in one day???
As someone who used to get it every year like clockwork, I can say it's not the same for me each time. Sometimes I get in to the doctor immediately from waking up with chest heaviness. That's before the productive cough starts. If I can get Biaxin, it's hell on my stomach but makes me feel WORLDS better in no time.
It's possible she's being honest. But in my experience, the productive cough came as I was healing, and clearing my lungs of the congestion. So it might still be coming.
Or she could have been hungover.
As to see her prescription bottle.

Thanks! The reason I asked is because I feel like this employee takes time off at the drop of a hat and always has an excuse that doesn't quite fit - I wouldn't be surprised if it was because she was hungover! lol.

Re: Bronchitis - can you get over it in one day???
As someone who has had chronic bronchitis their whole life, I have never gotten over it in one day. I have it right now and I've had it for almost 2 weeks and I'm looking at about another 2-3 weeks before I stop coughing entirely.

No I don't believe you can get better in one day. For me it took several days. I do believe after being an the antibiotic for 24 hours you're not contagious.
Also I have had bronchitis where I had a cough, fever but thought I was fine to go to work until it hit me.
Tell HR to ask for a doctor's note

Re: Bronchitis - can you get over it in one day???
bronchitis is very contagious!!!! I just had bronchitis last month and was quarantined told to stay home no public confined places(trains, buses, etc.). it took me 10 days before I even felt slightly better. I could barely get up to even use the bathroom.
The cough was horrendous I could barely get 2 words out without coughing violently. I actually pulled a rib because the cough was that bad and was hunched over from being in so much pain. I basically lived in bed for almost 2weeks. Not to mention fever for days.
Send the coworker home!!!
ETA: I was taking a very strong antibiotic and was on it 10 days and let me say it took those 10 days to start to even clear up.

Seriously, she's walking around, talking, looks fine, NO coughing, NOTHING. This is why I was asking - if she at least had a cough or something, I'd be much more inclined to believe it. Maybe they caught it early???
When I had bronchitis, I was told it's VERY contagious right at the beginning, but once it's full blown, the contagious phase has passed.

i didnt read the other posts before I posted. I thought maybe the coworker was swamped at work and came in and you all were worried you would get sick too.
It depends. I was at work for 3 days not realizing I even had bronchitis. I just had a dry cough, but then the cough got so bad and fever. I went to the doctor the next day had chest xray done and he said it was bronchitis and apparently I got bronchitis because I was fighting off a upper resp infection and my body was too weak.
