Bronx Zoo-- any tips, coupons, etc?
We're heading there next week and I haven't been since I was in 4th Grade
Any coupons out there?
Any tips for where to park, eat, attractions to definitely see, etc?
InShock, I'm expecting lots of advice from you too since I know you guys go!

Re: Bronx Zoo-- any tips, coupons, etc?
I have a membership and go often so it pays for itself.
Do the monorail early. It gets pack.
They no longer do the parking of the stroller (they used to give you a number - like a coat service - at particular location within the zoo). So have a bag handy if you want to keep your valuable.
The butterfly and gorilla are extra. But DD would love the butterfly attraction.
You DON'T have to take the Whitestone bridge. It's packed due to the fire on the Throg Neck bridge. I have to find the directions we did yesterday when we went. We barely had traffic.
The food is good and you have lots to choose from. I suggest you eat before 12pm. We usually do 11:30 or 11:45am so we find a place to sit.
Bring walking shoes. Lots of walking!!!! Lots of up and down "hills".
ETA: alternate directions to avoid Whitestone bridge
Take LIE then Clearview Take Throg Neck Bridge To I295 North/I 95 South/Cross Bronx expressway (1.2 miles) Exit 4B toward Rosedale Ave/Bronx River Pkwy (0.2 miles) Straight onto cross bronx (you cross the intersection!) Merge onto Bronx River Pkwy North toward White Plains - it's on right side after intersection (1.1 miles) Exit 6 Boston Rd Left on Boston Rd Boston Rd becomes Jungle World. Zoo will be on your left.

I know that if you have a Bank of America card you can use it to get in free for the first weekend of each month. So if you can wait two weeks, you'll save the $15 admission cost - it still costs for the exhibits though.

Thanks Sophie. All great info!! You just went yesterday? How fun! I'm sure EJ LOVES the animals, right?
The website says you can bring your own food & drinks in too, that's really nice. Have you guys done that?
I'm going to see if I can get a brochure before we go, I like to plan things out

Don't go on Wednesdays - it is free day (at least it used to be) and it is crazy and nuts - not fun.

Yes, it's on the site and it is Wednesdays...thank you! We're going on Thursday though. But thankfully the admission price isn't as high as I was fearing, which is good!

I have brought my food with me in the past. Now I just bring DS. I would get something there. We did bring our own drinks though. Plenty of people bring their food.
And yes, avoid Wednesday! It was just the only day we could do it together with DH.
It's nice and lots of shade!!!!
Just remember that some attractions do not allow strollers in.
Also watch the map. To go to the Bears you need to go from the "South" path. The other way has steps and it's a PITA with a stroller.
