I did this trip a few times.

Taking the L from Bedford to 8th Ave, and jumping on the A (express!), I think should take less than 1 hour.

my grandfather used to live in williamsburg and i used to live in washington heights.

i would say that it depends which train you're taking uptown.

are you taking the A,B,C,D,E or1,9?

I think an hour is more than enough time

It takes my co-worker about 40 minutes to get there from Times Square.

Weekday or weekend?

Sometimes the A runs local and that really adds to the time. If it's a weekday, i'd say an hour. A weekend, an hour and a half.

Depending on where you are going- I would take the A. Its pretty fast. You can get it at 14th street from the L. Then there are only a few stops in Manhattan- 34th, 42nd, 59th, 125th... So that would probably be best.
