Bryan really loves sleeping on his tummy
The past few days I have been putting Bryan to sleep and his rolls to his tummy and sleeps the whole night like that. He has never slept this soundly and he takes naps on his tummy too and he sleeps so great thru his naps its like a dream come true for me but I know we are supposd to put them on his back which I have for so long but he sleeps so much better on his tummy do you think its OK? He is 5 months old and he can roll anf lift anf turn his head? Im paranoid but also lovin the extra sleep- plus its good for his reflux.

My doctor said that once they start rolling over themselves you can let them sleep like that.

I let Jack sleep on his stomach since he came home from the hospital. He just wouldn't sleep on his back.

Re: Bryan really loves sleeping on his tummy
i think thats great that he's sleeping better but are you really able to relax knowing there is still a slight risk... You might rest better if he's on his back!

Re: Bryan really loves sleeping on his tummy
Ok, I'm not going to tell anyone that they should let their baby sleep on their tummies - what I will say - is one theory that i read about tummy sleepers is that it actually helps with physical development. That the startle reflex is actually a precursor to crawling movements - and if your baby was on his/her stomach for the majority of its time, he/she would learn to crawl sooner, etc by building their muscles. That's why tummy time is so important.
Both my kids were belly sleepers. I realized - Joseph was after I noticed that he slept for a good 4 hour stretch if he was sleeping on me, but woke if he was on his back. I started doing it for naps and then for overnights at about 2-1/2 months. By the time I had Maddie, I had read the book on child physical development and put her on her stomach from the get-go.

Re: Bryan really loves sleeping on his tummy
I let Nick sleep on his stomach early on too - he slept so much better, and the angel care monitor helped me relax a little. Oh, and I don't know if it has anything to do with it, but he was walking at 10 months.

Ditto.. and my son slept through the night.. from about three weeks...
He was a little big, born 10lbs 5 oz.. and was able to manuver his head, not lift it.. I would check on him a lot, but he was fine.
