BTDT Breastfeeding Moms....A Question...
It has been suggested to me by a friend to use Lansinoh lotion on my nipples PRIOR to starting breastfeeding....to kinda 'prepare' my nipples and keep them soft.
I did this for a short time, before bed and just didn't like the 'greasy' feeling it left me with....
Is this a silly thing to do? Is it practical? Is there a BETTER product to use???
Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!!

That is by far the best product out there. Keep it up. Anything you can do to prepare is worth it!

Keep it up and don't forget to pack it in your hospital bag!!
You are using breast pads too right? That stuff stains! Do you need the pads? I have 3 boxes, 2 of which have not been opened and I don't need them since I'm no longer BFing/pumping. I can bring them on Saturday.

Re: BTDT Breastfeeding Moms....A Question...
i heard it wasnt necessary to prep your nipples. like some people take towels and try to toughen up their nipples, but it is not necessary.
i didnt do anything to prep them and everything turned out fine...
i say if you dont like doing it, you can do without it..

Re: BTDT Breastfeeding Moms....A Question...
DO IT!!!!!
I started at 26 weeks using it 2 X a day... I was already wearing breast pads because I was leaking so I didn't have to worry about staining my clothes.... I would invest in some nursing pads... preferably a few re-usuable ones you can just throw in teh wash and put the lanolin on every night!!

Re: BTDT Breastfeeding Moms....A Question...
I never did any preparations so I can't comment on whether that will help or not, but Lansinoh is an amazing product. It is the one thing that saved me when I was in serious pain with my DD. It is a little icky feeling, but it works like a charm!

Re: BTDT Breastfeeding Moms....A Question...
I did this for about 3wks before I had DD. I really don't think it helped ease the pain any, but DEFINITELY use it after each and every feeding. It most def helps with the cracks, not so much the pain, but it will prevent your nipples from getting chapped.

Re: BTDT Breastfeeding Moms....A Question...
I never did any preparations at all and never had a problem - I was told though that the winter is worse to start b.c your skin is drier than the summer.

Re: BTDT Breastfeeding Moms....A Question...
i don't really see how using it before helps? i thought the idea was to use it once you started Bfing, since that's when your nipples are prone to drying/cracking, etc? i'm not sure what the benefit would be.
but having said that, lansinoh was a total lifesaver once i was BFing. i didn't have any cracking or bleeding or anything while i was using it. plus, it's extremely soothing when your nipples are sore. but like an above poster said, it STAINS so be sure to wear pads when you put it on!!

Re: BTDT Breastfeeding Moms....A Question...
I did not do any preparation but I can tell you that I used the Lansinoh pads (there were the best if you leak a lot!) and sometimes the Lansinoh cream. It was especially helpful when I was so sore because DS was BFing every hour at some point.

Re: BTDT Breastfeeding Moms....A Question...
i didnt prepare.... once i came home from the hospital i found myself starting to leak if i didnt pump at the usual intervals so i started with the nursing pads...
i didnt like lansinoh either(they have samples at the hospital if you ask)...
there is a more natural product- earth mama baby angel- havent used it yet but suppose to feel better.
