BTDT If you delivered in the new LIJ women's center- re: insurance
I'm hearing two things- one is that all rooms are 100% private, and also I've heard that there are some semi private rooms. I heard that (an insurance rep for my company, heard thru LIJ's rep) unless it's "medically necessary" to have a private room, and you are given a private room, the insurance will only reimburse the semi private rate.
Has anyone who gave birth there recently had any insurance issues with their claim?

are you referring to the Katz medical center? I didnt deliver there yet, but it is where my dr is affiliated with and she ensured me that ALL rooms are private - they no longer have any semi private rooms.

maybe the hospital rep gave her old info? i cant imagine that, given that her question was specific to the new center... hmm.

My husbands a NICU fellow at LIJ and he told me the rooms were beautiful and that they were all private. He's not the most reliable on this kind of information, but I looked on the website and it said "single mother baby rooms". Your best bet may be calling the hospital? I'm curious too! I have to decide on a new doctor and right now my major deciding factor is North Shore Manhasset vs LIJ. If only NS has privates I'm going there, haha.

i have and the isurance paid the same percentage of what they would have whether the rooms were private or not. If your insurance covers maternity at LIJ they will cover whatever they see fit and LIJ accepts that as full payment.

Ever room at LIJ is private and they are beautiful. It looks like a hotel!! I didn't have my baby yet but my friends mom works in the materity ward and she walked us around one day.
