BTDT Moms - teaching DC a second language
DD will be 15 months next week and we have been talking to her in italian and English - mostly itailian though-
I usually ask her commands in italian and she knows what to do - but then ill mix it up and talk to her in english and I don't want her to get confused -
Im haven't been totally consistent with her (but that is my own fault - either I forget or its out of lazyness/habit).
What do you mommies suggest so that DC can learn a second language?
Did you strictly speak your second language to them?
Did you mix it up?
How have your experiences been?
I have to admit - italian was my first language and I did have reading problems in the 1 and 2nd grade but improved in them quickly - I really feel that starting to teach DC at a young age will be beneficial but I really need your imput about this.
Thanks.

Re: BTDT Moms - teaching DC a second language
I am not in that position, but a friend of ours who is a SAHM will only speak to her son in Chinese in the morning and then after his nap in the afternoon will switch back to English. So far this seems to be working for them.
My inlaws speak an Indian dialec and watch DD one day a week, I asked them to only speak to her in their language but I think they use english, so far DD has only picked up a few words, nothing substantial from them
Good Luck!
