BTDT Moms: Can we talk about dropping the first nap?

My DD is 14 months. Her morning nap is kind of all over the place and I'm not sure if that's a sign that it needs to be phased out?

When does the morning nap usually disappear? Does it happen all on its own or does it need a little help from Mom to go away? Does the afternoon nap get earlier so that the one nap is more at the middle of the day?

Can you tell me what your experience is/was?

A little background: DD is 14m, has a nap starting at 9:30/10:00AM that could last 30mins to an hour. Her afternoon nap starts at around 2:30/3PM and lasts between 1-2hrs (normally closer to an hour). She goes to bed between 7-8 and sleeps usually 12 hours.

ETA: It's getting to the point that it's taking her so long to fall asleep that her whole schedule is of. Right now it's almost 4PM here and she's still not asleep - I'm having to wake her up from her naps so she doesn't miss her meals and her bedtime.

He goes to daycare!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon so...yeah not so bad!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

And actually I like the 2-3 hour nap that I get from him on the weekends.. its easier to plan the day like that.

ETA: yeah if she's just playing..and then only sleeps 30-40 mins.. I'd push her to stay awake and put her down around 11:30 and see

DS is the same age and starting to do the same Chat Icon
His afternoon naps are so hit or miss! If he DOES go down, it takes a good hour or two of trying and then he'll only take a short 30 minute catnap. I've moved his bedtime up an hour (to 6:30) to make up for it.

ETA: His morning nap is now about 2-3 hours long

I never really officially dropped it. We never were ones to put DS down for a nap, he just kinda fell asleep.

But in January, he moved to the senior infant room at daycare and they put the kids all down for a nap at the same time. So that caused him to only take one nap a day and now he has stuck with it.

I thought he was going to drop something around 9m, his naps where all over the place. Then after a few weeks he went back to his 2 2 hour naps at 11m.

At just around 10 months she dropped the afternoon nap and went with one in the late morning - She goes in at 10:30, but usually plays until almost 11:00. She sleeps til around 1:00 usually. She goes to bed at 7:00 and sleeps around 12 hours.
