Re: BTDT Moms--Contractions
At first they were like period cramps. When they started to come on stronger, my whole belly would tense up and it would stop me from being able to speak through them. Once they got really really strong, I would have to hold onto the handrails of the bed and squeeze them to prevent me from wanting to go back home and forget the whole thing.

excruciating pain. it stopped me in my tracks...
honestly - EVERY pain i felt before that was NOTHING compared to the 'real deal'.
i totally understood what everyone meant when they said - when it's the BIG ONE - you'll KNOW... I sure did!

Re: BTDT Moms--Contractions
I felt really bad cramping. It felt like bad period cramps to me. Honestly, I didn't know I was in labor until I got to the hospital.

Re: BTDT Moms--Contractions
thanks all I have period cramps right now. Not stop me in my tracks, but they are there and enough of them.
I am going to wait to call the doc. I was only 1.5 cm dilated as of Tuesday and doc said he was VERY high.
I still feel (and see him) moving like crazy right now....
ETA: Where did you feel these cramps

Re: BTDT Moms--Contractions
I agree...bad period cramps. The days prior they also felt like I had diarrhea but I didn't at all. I could handle them until they got to 4-5mins apart then they became so painful that I couldn't talk through them.

I have the period cramps as well and am 1cm (went to the Dr. this am). She told me it's normal and it's just the body getting ready to have the baby and that I will know when the real deal is here.

Re: BTDT Moms--Contractions
I had period type cramps for a while - then they started to get stronger & stronger. Eventually they were unbearable. Stop you in your tracks like davenjess said.

Re: BTDT Moms--Contractions
Im wondering too because Im only 35 weeks and I am having period like cramps for like 2 weeks now...nothing severe, but occasional pains with cramping like I need to go #2- TMI! I guess I need to wait for my first internal 12/17 to see whats going on! Everyone I know thats BTDT agrees that when its the real deal..you wont even think twice- you'll know !

Re: BTDT Moms--Contractions
Trust me when they are true contractions you will know. I felt like I was being electrocuted and could not catch my breath.
I cannot believe you are soooooo close

I was 1-2 cm dilated on a tues...I was having contractions but not close together...on Sat. night they started coming like every 10 min and then closer and closer...when they were like every 3-5 min I called the dr. When I got to the hospital I was 3-4 cm...my contractions were like AF cramps (actually not even as bad as some of my AF cramps) I remember thinking if all of labor was like that-I would be able to do it without the epidural no problem...Well after they broke my water-the contractions were excruciating and I only lasted another 2 hours without the epi...If they are close together-like 4 minutes or less apart for about an hour I would call the dr. regardless of how painful. Good luck!

Re: BTDT Moms--Contractions
For me, they were not period cramps.
Also, I had no idea it was real labor for awhile. When I was in very active labor (like 6cm dilated), yes, there would be no question in my mind. But, for the first 8 hours, I was convinced i was not in labor because they were not at all unbearable. After 8 hours, they started to get worse and closer together, which is the only reason I thought it might be the real deal. When I spoke to teh doc, he asked if I was doubled over in pain when the contractions were coming. I said not at all, so i thought it might still not be labor. But shortly after getting to the hospital, he confirmed I was 4cm, and said this was definitely labor. My water then broke, and within a few hours, I had the awful contractions that are unbearable. Those only lasted about 2-3 hours for me.
