BTDT Mom's how was your C-Section experience?

I have heard many people tell me with twins C-sections are very common. Tell me the truth how was the recovering? My DH keeps saying it is going to be bad but I keep telling him everyone is different and I may not even need one.

Everyone warned me that it was going to be horrible, so I was expecting the worst. It really wasn't bad at all. The nurses made me get out of bed the next day to take a shower. I walked around a lot at the hospital and I think that helped. I don't think I took anything stronger than Motrin once I got home.

I heard horror stories about c-sections and was really dreading it. But it really wasn't anywhere near as bad as I thought it was gonig to be. In the beginning I was slacking on my pain meds and was really suffering but once I kept up with those I was perfectly fine.

I heard some crazy stories, but it really was not that bad.
Don't get me wrong....I was in pain the first few days but it was totally manageable.

I had my c/s at 9pm and the next morning i was up and walked to the bathroom. DH pushed me in a wheelchair down to the NICU and then I walked in there to see the babies. By the 2nd day I was showered and walking down to the NICU on my own.

Even though it hurts.....get up and move ASAP. It really is what helps. My poor room mate didn't get out of bed except to use the bathroom and visit the baby in the NICU 2 times a day the whole time we were there and she was in so much pain the day we were discharged!

Thank you all! I had my gallbladder taken out a few years ago and I was in pain but I got up that day and walked around. I know it is a completely different kind of surgery but I feel like if I just laid in bed all day I would have been worse.

Re: BTDT Mom's how was your C-Section experience?

For me, my recovery was horrible. But I am sure that's because i have a very low tolerance for pain. I had my c-section in the late afternoon/early evening. The nurses had me up and walking the next morning but BOY did it hurt. I did not want to take the Perkaset(SP?) because my babies were in the NICU and i wanted to be ok when i was down there. The nurse made me take it at night though becuase i kept waking up the first 2 nights asking for motrin. The perkaset helped me sleep comfortably the next 3 nights. I was in the hospital for 5 days. I got up and walked a lot but had to keep a wheel chair with me becuase i could only stand for 5 minutes before it got unbearable. It took a few weeks before i was able to stand up straight.

However, everyone is different. i know a lot of people who had c-sections who had a great recovery. Definitely get up and walk around as much as possible after your c-section. And shower the next day if you can. I didn't shower for THREE DAYS becuase i was in too much pain and my dr ordered me to take a shower that it will help me feel a little better and it did. I wished i had showered sooner at the time.

I had two c-sections and neither were bad.

My advice --

walk as much as you can tolerate as soon as they let you and often without pushing too hard.

And don't be hero, take the pain meds at first until the soreness gets a little better.

When you get home, don't push yourself too hard, because you will start to feel better and think you can do everything and forget that you have internal stitches as well as external ones.

Good luck!

Good. Very good!

Went at 38wks, got a spinal. felt good, actually very sleepy, lol

Babies out, recovery was 6hrs since it was TWINS, which sucked royally cause you wait in a big room with others instead of being in a private room.

Walked and was up next day. I took Motrin, nothing more and I wasnt even in pain.

Recovery was good.

C section itself wasn't bad at all. The treatment for pre-eclampsia was NO FUN! Once I was allowed up I had some soreness but it wasn't bad at all. I was determined to spend as much time in the NICU with my babies as I could. Walking def helped but don't do too much because you will be sore. It is amazing how everyday you feel better and better! good luck

Re: BTDT Mom's how was your C-Section experience?

I had heard horror stories about a c-section and was really scared!! It was not that bad, the anticipation and the not knowing was worse! I went in at 8am and it took about 40 minutes, stayed in recovery for an hour and then went to my room. Fortunately it was the Christmas holiday so I had a room to myself. By 6pm I walked to the rocking chair and was sitting up. The next morning they got me up to the bathroom and walking around.
My advise: Get up and walk around as much as you can tolerate. It will make you feel better and don't let the pain get to the point where it is untolerable. Good luck!
