BTDT moms.... laundry question......

so, we're obviously supposed to use mild fragrance/dye-free detergent and no fabric softener....

this is all fine when we are doing our initial washing... but when the baby comes....

so, what do you do following a blow-out Chat Icon or other major staining incidents? What spot-treatments do you use? I'm tempted to use oxyclean, rinse thoroughly, and then re-wash it with mild stuff.

Would that be bad?

I've used Spray n Wash from day one with DD. It gets everything out. She never had any problems with it.

Both Oxyclean and Dreft make a spray and wash stain treater. I've used both and they both worked very well at getting out the *blow out* stains.

He has so many clothes - that anything that is stained - or really gross goes right in the garbage. I find that most of the things come out in the regular laundry though.

Re: BTDT moms.... laundry question......

I NEVER used Dreft or anything like that, I always used Tide. Dreft has such a horrible, perfumey smell that I couldn't see how Tide would be a problem, and it wasn't. I wanted her clothes super clean.

Re: BTDT moms.... laundry question......

I used the dreft spray for all of the clothes that he spit up on...and his bibs....it really worked great....when we had a major blowout (which thankfully was not often at all) I just threw the clothes out.

Baby Oxyclean or Reg Oxyclean Spray. My DD is 2.5 and I have yet to lose an outfit because of it. You just have to be on top of it. Strip them down and spray the heck out of the outfit when it happens Chat Icon

Re: BTDT moms.... laundry question......

i found Dreft to work well in all cases. Dreft sells a laundry stain remover and BRU has a sotore brand one too that I always kept on hand. Worked GREAT.

Re: BTDT moms.... laundry question......

I use Dreft Stain Remover and for major blow outs - GARBAGE. Some breastmilk poops are beyond worth saving the clothes - when he was going through the stage where he'd poop through a lot - we stuck with cheap onesies so I didn't feel bad about tossing them.

Re: BTDT moms.... laundry question......

I never used any stain remover and for the most part nothing stained. DD was BF though and I think that is less likely to stain. After the blow out, which happened daily at one point, I would rinse it out real good and keep it wet until it went into the wash (although it did dry sometimes). I only had to throw out one or 2 outfits and they were crappy (no pun intended) anyway.

ITA. In the beginning if a onsie got gross, in the trash it went. Most stuff comes out if you pre-treat with the free & clear detergents though.

Re: BTDT moms.... laundry question......

Because I am a neurotic first time mom I pre washed everything in Dreft. With so much left I am still washing Ryan's clothes with Dreft. Originally, for explosive messes I just threw it out.

Now I just use shout on it.

Once the Dreft is done I plan on washing all clothes together with our detergent (Tide).
