BTDT moms need help re: chest congestion.

Took DS to the ped thurs night b/c he had a cough for two days that seemed to be bothering him and he had started to run a fever. Ped examined him and took blood - said it was a virus, his lungs were clear, his throat was a bit red,he was congested and told me the usuals - tylenol for fever humidifier nose drops etc.

So since yesterday he has been fever free is coughing less and sleeping much better. However, I can hear his congestion now whereas I couldn't before. Also, if i put my hand on his back i can sometimes feel the congestion when he breathes in - this is not all the time though.

My q - is this normal, the cold just breaking up or is it spreading to his lungs? Is this like the signs of pnemonia or bronchitis or something? Should I bring him in tomorrow to the ped again and have him checked out or should i wait a few days until its been a week and see how he is doing? TiA Chat Icon

If you can feel him breathe, I would call the ped. Chat Icon

Hmmm not sure if I am explaining it right - his chest is fine and he isn't having trouble breathing at all. Its more like i can feel the congestion - but its not all the time and its only sometimes when he breathes in.

I would call the Ped. My DD had the same thing and it turned out to be nothing but because all their organs are so compact its good to have the doc have a listen to make sure it isn't something more serious. My ped said to call whenever we can feel the congestion.

Call your ped just to make sure...how old is dc? I make ds cough when i hear it like that. And I always put Vicks on his feet.

Re: BTDT moms need help re: chest congestion.

I would call the ped...but in the meantime...try sitting in the bathroom while you let the shower steam up the room.

A humidifier and vicks plug ins and baby vicks rub.

When DD gets stuffy and it travels those are our sure fire ways to break it all up and help her breathe.

Good luck. Hope DC feels better! Chat Icon Chat Icon

jmho=but chances are if you can hear it=-=but he is fever free he is ok.
I would watch it though0-it can be something else.
Both of my kids had where it turned into pneumonia within 24-48 hours-it was never without a fever though.
I would watch for railing on his side..you can google exactly what I mean.
Its where they are breathing in if you have their shirt up-you see on the sides theri ribs like going in and out-if that makes sense.
I bet within 24 hours it clearsupand its breaking up=-
If he isi fever free but lethargic then maybe go back in.
Callfor piece of mind but I would nto worry yet-again-jmho and experience

I agree with both Rachelle's ideas and what Jeanine said.....If you can see him sorta sucking in when he breathes ( his chest) or he is breathing rapid, take him back in. If he is just congested but noether of those signs, its likely just a bad cold and not in the lungs. Chat Icon

Re: BTDT moms need help re: chest congestion.

Thanks so much ladies. He is really acting perfecly fine and still has no temp at all so hopefully it is just congestion as some of you said. I spoke with a friend of family tonight who is a ped and said it sounds like it is prob just breaking up. I will wait a few days and if it persists take him in or if it gets worse. Thanks soooooo much ladies you are the best Chat Icon
