BTDT moms with Lactose Intolerance in Toddlers???
I have suspected it for a while but after a stomach bug and stopping milk for a week I'm sure she has it. I spoke with the ped on the phone who wasn't very helpful but said that she is definitely lactose intolerant and we should switch to Lactose free milk.
So can you moms with Lactose intolerant toddlers fill me in on what you feed your DC? Do you just give them Lactose free milk and avoid all other dairy? Do you just give them Lactose free milk but still let them eat regular cheese or occasional ice cream or other dairy products? I'm not sure what I should be doing with her.
Also we usually give her organic whole milk - do they make organic Lactose milk? Should I buy special cheese or ice cream? Is it a problem if I let her have an occasional grilled cheese or slice of pizza when we go to playdates or parties?
TIA!!!!

Re: BTDT moms with Lactose Intolerance in Toddlers???
Well she has always had a lot of BM on milk - - well we suspected it a while ago b.c it got worse when she had a lot of milk. DH had BAD lactose intolerance as a child.
Well she had a vomiting episode that we thought might be a little stomach bug - but it was only one incident. But my ped suggested I take her off milk for 48 hours just in case. We did and when I started her up again she was fine with milk the 1st day then the second she had a single vomiting episode again. So the ped had me stop milk for a 5 days. Those 5 days her stomach became much less distended and she had regular BM's formed but not hard like with constipation - and only 1-2 a day. I started her back on milk and since then she has 5-9 BM's a day - soft, mushy - but NOT diarrhea and not muscusy. Her stomach is distended again.
The ped said it didn't sound like a milk protein allergy - but it sounded like lactose intolerance - which as I said would make sense b.c DH has this and had it when he was a child.
When I supplemented with formula when I had trouble pumping - I started her on Similac advanced and she got a LOT of gas and diarrhea - but when I switched to lactose free emfamil those symptoms went away. When we started her on whole milk I mentioned she was having a lot of BM's and they were mushy (again not diarrhea - not muscusy at all like when she had the stomach flu) - and she had some gas but he said it was normal for her to do so when starting regular milk from Breast milk. While it did get better (the gas etc) she still had the extended stomach and the frequent BMs.

I would be interested too in answers. Kaydyn we believe is Lactose Intolerant and her ped suggested giving her Lactaid milk. I don't believe it's organic.
We still give her dairy products in small amounts (like we won't give her a whole yogurt, but will give her a little bit of cheese)
