BTDT Moms...just had shower...how many of these items do I REALLY need?
I just had my shower last weekend...it was GREAT! We got so many things off our registry.
We also got TONS of onesies and bibs, and some sleepers. Most of the clothes we got were 0-3 months, we also got a bunch of newborn sized onesies and sleepers. and seriously have at least 20 bibs (probably more!). I'm just trying to figure out if I should return anything, we have receipts for some.
How many newborn clothes/onesies/sleepers do i really need....I know he wont fit into them for long but i've also heard they are good to have.
What about 0-3 months onesies? sleepers? pants? sleep sacks?
Finally...how many bibs do I REALLY need? I probably have like 30 right now.
Also how many hooded towels and washcloths do I need? right now we have 3 hooded towels and 5 washcloths.
Sheet sets? Right now we have 6 sets of crib sheets....is that too much??
receiving blankets?
baby fleece blankets? we have 2 right now...should I return one? (we also have 2 crocheted blankets)
What other clothing items should I get? Should I wait to get older sizes?
We are also expecting at least one more small shower from DH's work, and probably from my work too where we know they mostly buy clothes, bibs, blankets, etc....I just want to avoid having way more than I will use.

Re: BTDT Moms...just had shower...how many of these items do I REALLY need?
How many newborn clothes/onesies/sleepers do i really need....I know he wont fit into them for long but i've also heard they are good to have. - Both DD and DS were over 8lbs. when they were born so we never used any NB stuff.
What about 0-3 months onesies? sleepers? pants? sleep sacks? - you'll need a ton depending on how often you do laundry. DS definitely went through them quicker because he spit up a ton and peed through almost every diaper at night.
Finally...how many bibs do I REALLY need? I probably have like 30 right now. - depends on how many different types. The cloth bibs are good at first but once they start solids, I like the plastic bibs because they just wipe off in the sink and I don't have even more laundry to do.
Also how many hooded towels and washcloths do I need? right now we have 3 hooded towels and 5 washcloths. Again, depending on how often you do laundry and how often you plan on giving baths, you should be fine with this amount.
Sheet sets? Right now we have 6 sets of crib sheets....is that too much?? NO!!! I found I am changing crib sheets 3-4x a week because DS spit up in his sleep or peed through his diaper.
receiving blankets? never really used these. We used the Miracle Blanket for swaddling.
baby fleece blankets? we have 2 right now...should I return one? (we also have 2 crocheted blankets) - no keep them. They always come in handy when you go out or in the stroller, etc.
What other clothing items should I get? Should I wait to get older sizes? You can wait to get older sizes, but when the baby is born you'll probably get a lot of clothes and people may even ask what size clothes you'd like, so I'd wait to see what you get first before spending your $$$$
Hope this helps! Good luck!

Re: BTDT Moms...just had shower...how many of these items do I REALLY need?
As for the NB clothes-IMO, don't return anything yet. Even with growth sonos, you never know how big DC will be.
My DD was estimated 5lbs 9ozs at 35 weeks. She was born at 6lbs 6ozs.
She will be 8 weeks Monday and she is still in NB clothes. Some 0-3, but it is all really big on her.
I didn't think I needed NB since I was 8lbs 6ozs at birth, but I wound up having my mother go out and get me a whole bunch of stuff. We've used everything more than once!
I have no idea about crib sheets (I have 3)
The blankets-if you use A/C in the summer, they could come in handy. We are in S. Florida but since we have central air everywhere, I use them.
I think you have enough towels and washcloths. I have the same and I use them. Plus, I was told you can use hooded towels past 1 years old.
As for bibs-I have a lot, and I use a lot. DD spits and drools on her outfits and I like to keep this pristine. But I am abnormally obsessed with stains.

Re: BTDT Moms...just had shower...how many of these items do I REALLY need?
How many newborn clothes/onesies/sleepers do i really need....DD was 6lbs 4 oz so we needed newborn. I would hold onto them but not wash them or take the tags off and return them if you don't need them but I would wait until your baby is born.
What about 0-3 months onesies? sleepers? pants? sleep sacks? I would say have at least 10 onesies, and sleepers. I use the miracle blanket and only have one but I was it often so I manage to get buy. You don't need that many.
Finally...how many bibs do I REALLY need? You will end up going through a ton of bibs when the baby is teething.
Also how many hooded towels and washcloths do I need? You have a good amount of these.
Sheet sets? I only have 3 sets of crib sheets and that is plenty. One in the wash, one on the bed and one in the closet.
receiving blankets? I think 4 is good.
baby fleece blankets? I would keep the two, you will use them for the stroller, etc.
What other clothing items should I get? Should I wait to get older sizes? I would wait on older sizes as you don't know how big the baby will be and how quick the baby will be in the other sizes.

I'd keep them all for now. DD was 8.7 and fit into newborn for about a month.
What about 0-3 months onesies? sleepers? pants? sleep sacks?
onesies and sleepers I'd keep too because between peeing and spit-up you go through a lot of clothes in the beginning. We have 3 sleepsacks and that was fine for us. DD only wore them to bed a night.
Finally...how many bibs do I REALLY need? I probably have like 30 right now.
Keep the bibs. They are easier to change then an entire outfit!
Also how many hooded towels and washcloths do I need? right now we have 3 hooded towels and 5 washcloths
I'd get more wash clothes but 3 hooded towels should be fine. It really depends on how much you like doing laundry.
Sheet sets? Right now we have 6 sets of crib sheets....is that too much??
I don't think you need 6 sets of sheets. 3 should be fine
receiving blankets?
4 should be enough
baby fleece blankets? we have 2 right now...should I return one? (we also have 2 crocheted blankets)
I'd keep the blankets. DD is 2 and we still use them. We never used the crocheted blankets though we got a bunch.
What other clothing items should I get? Should I wait to get older sizes?
I'd wait

What about 0-3 months onesies? sleepers? pants? sleep sacks? I never used sleep sacks, but my kids were in 0-3 for awhile
Finally...how many bibs do I REALLY need? I probably have like 30 right now. Unless there are ones you don't like, keep them. When the baby starts solids you go through them and when they are teething you cvan use 10 a day!!! My kids wear bibs all the time b/c they drool like crazy!!

2 towels in enough IMO
Sheet sets? Right now we have 6 sets of crib sheets....is that too much?? I have 3 for each crib and it is plenty!!
receiving blankets? baby fleece blankets? we have 2 right now...should I return one? (we also have 2 crocheted blankets) i have one fleece i use if its chilly, otherwise i love receiving blankets
I would wait to buy any other stuff.....ust get the credit and see what you need.

not sure if you're using daycare or not, but the daycares i checked out required you to bring your own sheets for the baby's crib since they don't share cribs. so i registered for 6 sets. 4 to keep at home and 2 to keep at daycare.

Re: BTDT Moms...just had shower...how many of these items do I REALLY need?
How many newborn clothes/onesies/sleepers do i really need.... i would keep about 5 in each size...you can always buy more if you need. only wash/remove tags from a couple of them...that was my biggest mistake. i washed EVERYTHING and i only used less than 1/2
What about 0-3 months onesies? sleepers? pants? sleep sacks?
we used these A LOT. but again, only wash like 6-7 sets and then see what you need from there. with a newborn you are doing laundry almost everyday...they go through clothes like crazy!
Finally...how many bibs do I REALLY need? i think 30 is WAY too many. i would only keep about 10 at most. also, once they get a little bit older, i liked using the wipeable ones...so much easier!
Also how many hooded towels and washcloths do I need? right now we have 3 hooded towels and 5 washcloths. i think that sounds good. you dont need more than that
Sheet sets? Right now we have 6 sets of crib sheets....is that too much??
DS is 2.5. we just switched his crib over to a full size bed. we only used 4 sheets and rotated. if you need more, you can always buy
receiving blankets? i would keep about 6 of these. i liked swaddling DS in them.
baby fleece blankets? we have 2 right now...should I return one? (we also have 2 crocheted blankets) i would keep them. they are good when you want to take baby for a walk and you dont want to use a bundle me
What other clothing items should I get? Should I wait to get older sizes? i would buy maybe a few things in sizes 6-9 and 9-12, but honestly, you will always be running out to buy things you need so you will have plenty of time to get what you need once your LO starts getting bigger.
We are also expecting at least one more small shower from DH's work, and probably from my work too where we know they mostly buy clothes, bibs, blankets, etc....I just want to avoid having way more than I will use.
the key is to just not wash everything. then you cant return it!!!

Re: BTDT Moms...just had shower...how many of these items do I REALLY need?
Thanks ladies!!!
So I am thinking maybe I will return 1 pack of crib sheets for now (they come in sets of 2). And I will plan on washing only a few NB and some 0-3 month clothes that didnt have receipts with them (so I know I cant return them anyway). I will save the rest and see how big DS is. (I think he will be an 8lber at least).
I also need to buy pack and play sheets...I didnt get any. How many should I buy? I am thinking 2 is good.

Re: BTDT Moms...just had shower...how many of these items do I REALLY need?
Isn't it fabulous how generous people can be!
My DD stayed in NB for almost 10 weeks. If you think DC will be on the smaller size, I say hold them, keep tags on most of it, and wait to see. You want to have enough outfits so you aren't doing wash every other day, but you may change DC 2x in a day. At least 10 outfits, plus some extra onesies and pants. You'll store some places...diaper bag, car, etc. Same goes for the other sizes.
With sleepers and sleep sacks, I follow the rule of 3's...one one, one in the wash, and one ready to go. An extra isn't a bad thing. I did the same with swaddlers.
Bibs get gross and stained fast. Keep them all but only have about 10-15 out. Save the rest for when that first batch gets gross looking.
Stick to the rule of 3's for the towels. Before 1 year you will probably be using regular towels. I'd get a few more wash clothes, but you may get them as gifts.
Sheets...rule of 3's again! An extra sheet and mattress pad isn't bad to have. I'd do the same for changing pad covers.
3-5 receiving blankets...have a few around the house, one in the car, etc.
baby fleece blankets...keep 2.
