BTDT pumpers - how do you know if you are using the correct size flange?

I have the Ameda Purely Yours pump which came with 25mm flanges. How do I know if they're the best size for me?

I used the Medela PISA and I was just using the ones that came with it with my DD but when I saw a lactation consultant she said tehy were totally too small. I think she upped me to like 36mm which are really big, haha...I don;t know how you tell what size you need but she immediatley knew that I needed to use a bigger size.

If your nipple is filling the whole inside of the shield and extending way into it, your shield is too small. There should be some room around the nipple where it first extends into the shield.

When I used the size mine came with, I was getting blisters . As soon as I moved up a size, I was so much more comfortable!
