BTDT QUESTION...preparing for baby

Sorry for all the questions lately ladies!!!Chat Icon Just wondering...

I know nipples..bottles..etc have to be sterilized but do you do it a few days before or did you wait until the baby was born? I was just thinking about doiing that stuff next week..would be 2wks until c-sections but then won't tehy get "dirty" again? Also when you did sterilize and wash their clothes before birth did you just hang them back in the closet? Or didyou put them in a rubbermaid to keep them clean...I am not a germ-a-phob just want to make sure I am doing it correctly...or half correctly LOL..TIA!!You guys are so patient with us Mommies to be!

Re: BTDT QUESTION...preparing for baby

FYI, it's impossible to give DC "sterile" bottles. The second you take them out of the sterilizer or the dishwasher (which sterilizes them just as well as a sterilizer, but it's more convenient), and they are exposed to air, they are no longer sterile. I would do it a few days before. They will still be clean, and it's one less thing you have to worry about during your first few days. Who wants to come home with a brand-new baby, and immediately have to worry about washing bottles?

Re: BTDT QUESTION...preparing for baby

Agree with above poster about the sterilie thing.. you would have to put the bottles in a sterlized proof bag like hospitals do to keep it sterile.

I just washed new babys bottles about 2 weeks ago, I boilled them for 5 minutes, then ran through dishwasher. once dry I put all parts together and put extra parts in zip lock baggy and put away until ready to use. I plan on EBFing for a bit, but wanted to have ready just in case didnt work out. I also washed pacis same way.

Re: BTDT QUESTION...preparing for baby

The previous posters are correct about sterilizing. In regards to the clothes, I washed them with baby detergent (you can use other detergent as well as long as it is sensitive one like free and clear), and then placed the clothes in her drawers. I did this about 2 weeks before I was due so when I came home from the hospital everything was ready to go.

Re: BTDT QUESTION...preparing for baby

I don't remember when I did the bottles. The clostes I did maybe a week before. I washed up to 3 months which I don't suggest doing. I have so many clothes and blankets that were never even used that I was stuck with because they were washed and couldn't be returned/exchanged.
