btdt schedule, bfing, bottle, sleep

hi ladies,
I was just given the ok to let them sleep past the 3 hour mark. but now im not sure what to do with them. my ped recommended demand feeding, but im not going to let that happen. it seems like that would be worse then every 3 hrs.

I think we will only let them go at night at first.
what did you do? lets say they woke at 230 am and then 6 am, when would you feed them next? they were/are on a 2,5,8,11. I feel like last night and today have been worse then the past 3 weeks.
and do you up any of their feeds? I'm bfing, bottle and pumping. they are bfing better and better every day, but still need to be topped off. I do not bf at night, the sleep is way too precious.

I feel like this could spiral into complete chaos.

Re: btdt schedule, bfing, bottle, sleep

We've been working on this the past couple of weeks. I'm not sure that our system is the right way, but we are ok with it for now.

Overnight we let them go as long as they will go (its never been more than 4 hours since the start of the last feeding). Whenever the first baby wakes, we feed them. The other guy is usually not far behind, but hopefully they let us get through the first feeding. We wake the other baby if he hasn't woken up yet.

Once we wake up for the day, we stay on that every 3 hours schedule until the next overnight.

So we're not always on the 2,5,8,11 schedule but something close to it - give or take an hour in either direction.

If you are ok with giving it a try, it can't hurt. You can always go back to waking every 3 hours.

I will say that those rare overnights when they give us a 4 hour stretch giving us a longer chunk of sleep feels AMAZING! Chat Icon

so far we have put them back on the 2,5,8,11 during the am. if we dont I feel like we can never plan anything during the day, Like dr etc. but I feel like we loose the morning adjusting.
