BTDT Working moms who breastfed
I was really leaning towards not nursing for a few reasons, but now I think I want to try it, if I can. One of my concerns: I will have to go back at 8 weeks or so, and pumping at work is nearly impossible for privacy, space and time issues. My question is, if I don't pump during work, will I lose my supply? Since DH will be home, I figured that we will supplement with formula while I'm gone.
Since I'm a teacher, I will only be going back for about 5-6 weeks anyway, then I will be home for the summer and exclusively BFing would be possible then.

breastfeeding is all supply and demand so if you dont pump you wont make milk for that time of the day. At only eight weeks post partum it might affect your supply, i'm not sure if you could get it back after. Are you sure you cant pump ayt work? I'm an elementary teacher so I pump in my classroom, but i know cluster teachers who have pumped in their friends classrooms, the speech or guidance office, etc. talk to your principal about it? maybe he/she can help.

I have my own classroom, but that means very little- all the adults have a master key- and more than once I've found that when my kids want to get into a locked room, they usually are able to find someone to let them in. And I'm in a small school which means less space and we're needed to pitch in more. Some days I barely have time to eat.

Re: BTDT Working moms who breastfed
My sister is nursing and working full time --- and her daughter is now 7 months and REFUSES to take a bottle so she actually has the babysitter take her up at lunch time so that she can nurse her.
as far as pumping she does continue to pump to maintain her milk supply and also gives the milk to her babysitter to mix with cereal and to have just in case there is some reason she can't get her up there to nurse and she dropper-feeds her.
As far as pumping she goes in during her prep as well as right before she leaves work and actually does it in the gym-teacher's office since it locks and is a secluded place where noone will bother her. there are actually 3 nursing moms who do this in my sister's school.

Working Mother/Nursing Mother will really help you with this. You CAN pump. It may take some figuring out but it can be done. It takes some work, but it is SOOO worth it. I do not regret pumping one bit. Molly didn't latch so I pumped for a year to provide her with only BM. It was hard and somedays I felt like a cow, literally, but it was totally worth it. I can help you figure out the pumping.
You will need a high quality pump such as a Pump In Style. I can help you figure out how often you need to pump.

I know what you mean. I can relate. I lock my door and put a Do Not Enter sign on it. Then I move a pocket chart stand by my desk as a barrcade, with all of this I hjave had people barge in. I just ask them to leave.

Re: BTDT Working moms who breastfed
I have alot of friends who BF and are back at work, they stick with the morning and night time feed, 2 of my friends babies don't take a bottle or drink from a cup at all (stubborn little things) but they seem to do fine all day!

Re: BTDT Working moms who breastfed
I work and I pump while I am here. I don't know what would happen to my supply if I stopped pumping during the day.
I don't know your school, but I am sure there is a way that you could pump during the day. There are car chargers so you can pump in the car. Perhaps there is a faculty bathroom that you could lock. Perhaps you could go home to pump/nurse your DC. Are there other moms who work in your school? Maybe one of them dealt with this issue and figured it out.
Good luck!
