btdt..I know you shouldn't lift stuff when pregnant, but how many of you really stopped picking up/carrying other children?
I can't wrap my head around this easily. I obviously don't carry DS up the stairs to bed, but sometimes I do carry him out of the car to the front door.............
what have you guys done?

You're just not supposed to lift anything heavier than what you would normally lift, so I don't think it's a problem to lift DS

I lifted my DD all the time. Up the stairs, in and out of the crib, etc. I think its only excess above what you normally do.

DD didn't buy into that 'no lifting heavy 2 year olds' rule. I remember picking her up while I was on my way to the hospital to give birth because she wanted to come with me instead of going with my mom... it's fine. Lift with your legs.

I didn't have a high risk pregnancy & had no restrictions at all. I lifted whatever I normally lifted while pregnant. That included my toddler, along with packages, shoveled snow, etc.

Re: btdt..I know you shouldn't lift stuff when pregnant, but how many of you really stopped picking up/carrying other children?
I still "lift" my son to the extent that I always did...I'm 30 weeks and he is a 43 lb 3.5 year old.
It's not like I carried him all that much to begin with but I still lift him when he wants (or when I want). I try not to carry him up the stairs because that is exahusting but in general it doesn't feel like a strain at all. Again, he is old enough where he doesn't really get carried anywhere.

I've only been pregnant once, but I work in a preschool and I lifted those kids straight through my pregnancy. Like others have said, you are just not supposed to lift more than your body is used to normally lifting. And the only reason they say that is to protect your own back/body, so as long as you make sure to bend your legs and not lift using your back, you should be ok!

DS is over 40lbs, and I still carry him. Not a ton as he is 3 but still enough. We just went to Disney and I carried him on lines, up stairs, etc.
I just put him down when I dont feel good!

My DD didn't start walking until a month before DS was born. I had no choice but to lift her/carry her. My OB told me that since my body was used to it, it was okay.

since DS was so young, I had no choice put to lift him especially since we were the only ones home during the day. Even after my second section, I was lifting DS when we got home from the hospital

I don't know how old your son is, but my DD was 20 mos. when her sister was born. Yeah, I carried her out of her crib, into her carseat...stuff like that.
But I also trained her at an early age to walk because I knew once #2 arrived, I wasn't about to be carrying them both around.
With #3, #2 was 3 years old already, so it wasn't an issue.
Yep, I'm a real drill sergeant!

I lifted my DD right up until I left to have my c-section. She's not even 2 yet, so there is no way that I couldn't have lifted her during my pregnancy.

Re: btdt..I know you shouldn't lift stuff when pregnant, but how many of you really stopped picking up/carrying other children?
It depends on the day. My son is very big for his age and is a lot to lift.
I make him climb the stairs in our house so I don't carry him up. Sometimes I lift him and all is fine.
Sometimes I pick him up and instantly I feel like something is wrong in my belly. At that point I put him down and limit how much I lift him until the feeling goes away.
I don't think I could get away with never carrying him. It just isn't possible.

I always picked up my DD, had to she was less than 13 months.
Honestly when it got to be a problem, we just sat down and i had her walk over to me and climb on me.

I carried DD#1 the entire time I was pregnant down to the day I delivered. I should add she was only about 25 lbs though. I carried her up the stairs etc.
