Bubble Tea
Anyone ever make Bubble Tea at home? I am having a major craving for those yummy tapioca pearls in sickly sweet tea and I can't get any here in Manchester...
Anyone? Anyone?

Re: Bubble Tea
I have only ever had Bubble Tea a handful of times... once at a Philippino restaurant, and a few times at a girlfriend's house when her mother made it. I never have craved it.. but now I am thinking I would like some!

Yes, i have made it many times. I use the large black pearls. I get them from a market in Chinatown.

Re: Bubble Tea
OMG - Bubble tea is the best!!! I am obsessed with it - I get it when I go to the city (the only place I can get it pretty much - especially with soy milk) and my favorite bubble tea on St. Marks place closed up!
but - I know there are actually Bubble tea making kits you can buy online!!

Re: Bubble Tea
I have a great idea! Everyone come to me (in Great Neck) for a bubble tea Sunday!
If you want Bubble Tea, go to Entre on Grace Ave. It's soo great - when racheeeee was in town, I sent her over to Entre and even Noah loved it!
Racheeeee you'll have to come too!

Somehow I knew that is where she had the bubble tea.
I don't have a clue how to make it. You can probably buy the tapioca bubbles in an ethnic store. Is there a Chinatown in Manchester? The people that run Entre are from Flushing-Main Street and buy their supplies there.
If "ethnic" is not the p.c. word, I am going to apologize now to avoid the flames.
Classic Bubble Tea Recipe
1/2 cup chilled, cooked large Chinese tapioca pearls (if substituting regular small tapioca, use 1/3 cup) 1 cup crushed ice 1 cup very strong chilled black tea (or orange pekoe tea or Lichee tea) 1 cup milk, or to taste Honey or sugar to taste
Place the pearls in a large parfait glass. Combine all remaining ingredients in a cocktail shaker, and shake vigorously until the mixture is frothy. Pour into the glass, and serve with extra-thick straws.
Yields one (16-ounce) drink.

Re: Bubble Tea
DH loves this! We go to a shop in Chinatown. We've bought some tapioca pearls from Chinatown, but haven't tried them yet.
I wish I could help more. Just wanted to say yummy!

It is great hot or cold, but I prefer the cold. Go for the peach or mango. Lychee leaves a funky after taste.

Same here. My fav is bubble milk tea, with "fruit" flavors like melon and strawberry. It's like strawberry quick with tapioca on the bottom. So yummy!

OMG, I am so in the mood for bubble tea now. There's a place down the street from where I work that makes the best crepes and bubble tea.

Re: Bubble Tea
I love bubble tea!
My favorite is the Almond flavor
I've never made it at home though, that would be great. But where would one get those super fat, huge, mongo dukey big straws The market has pretty big tapioca balls but I haven't found the ones as big and dark as are in the bubble teas.
IMO China town has the best, I've gotten it at Palisades Mall and it was so-so
