Buckwheat groats aka Kasha

I bought a packet of it today.. looked very earthy and wholesome. Now question is what do I do with it? Chat Icon

You boil it in water- for how long depends on the amount, but you want it to get soft to touch.

It can be used as a side, instead of rice or grains. Also try mixing it with bowtie pasta.

I make kasha varnishkes all the time, I make it the way my grandma always did, mix a cup of kasha with a beaten egg, fry it with a little butter until the egg is cooked, add two cups of water and cook like rice. I then add sautéed onions and mushrooms and Bow tie pasta. Yum

I;ll try about the beaten egg next with the pasta. Last night, I sauteed some onions and garlic, threw in some potatoes and carrots with some spices and then added the groats and let it all come into a simmer. It was like a pilaf. I was googling what to do with it and saw that many people had used it like a grain. Hopefully, DD will eat it today.. that's the ultimate seal of approval Chat Icon
