Building/Owning a home on LI (Not a Home board post)
Does the whole global warming thing (where the water levels will rise from the ice melting) make you think twice about building a home/ owning a home or just plain living on LI??
I ask because we are thinking about building a house which is like 7' above sea level on a creek. My DH saw An Inconvenient Truth and now he is worried about 20-50 years from now having our new house under water. He wants to build upstate in the hills.
Opinions/thoughts please.

hmmm. Well I think that any coastal houses are at risk at any time for flooding. I grew up in Massapequa, and the area by Alhambra Road floods everytime it rains. The basements in the "new" houses on that block are useless & have all flooded numerous times. I lived there from 1978 through 2003, and it never got better or worse. I guess my point is being on an island, with a bay, sound, ocean and high water table, we are always at risk for flooding....KWIM?

central NJ floods worse than here bc of the rivers. so its not just living near the ocean you have to worry about!

Hills have mudslides.... There is no "safe" place to build. There will always be natural disasters everywhere.... hurricanes, tornadoes, forest fires, mudslides, etc. Just move where you like, and deal with nature when it happens (or doesn't happen).
