built in A/C units - do you cover them?
we have an A/C unit built into our LR wall. it's getting very chilly in there. do they sell something to cover it with? or do we just use plastic and tape? i assume we cover it from the outside. we just moved into the house this summer. before we only had window units. my parents had built in units but i don't remember them ever covering them. hmmm

Lowes sells covers to put on the outside
Dh and I tape the really think garbage bags over the outside, then put one of the covers on
Then we tape a piece of cardboard over the vent on the inside. We feel it blocks out the draft a little better

We have an outside cover and an inside cover to try to stop the drafts. I'm pretty sure we got both at Lowes or Home Depot.

What if they are on the 2nd floor. We have two smaller units but they are in the wall in the bedrooms upstairs. we didn't cover them last winter. How would we even do this???

We couldn't find anything that did a very good job. DH just built them himself out of foam this past weekend.

Grab a ladder - it's usually a stretchy cover - you just stretch it around the unit... You should be stable enough to cover it.
If you're afraid - just cover the inside.
In my parents house we had AC units in the walls upstairs, I just covered the inside and it wasn't drafty at all.
