Bulldog Owners...

How much do you feed your dog? Boozer is a big boy, but he is solid. I always wonder if we feed him too much.

He gets one scoop (1 cup) in the morning, and two scoops at night. Should he only be getting one scoop both times?

TIA

Re: Bulldog Owners...

I don't know about Bulldogs but my 75 pound Labrador gets the same amount. Chat Icon

I've always read and been told by my vet that if you can feel the ribs with light pressure on the dog's sides, they are at the right weight. If you can't at all, or only with a lot of pressure, you should cut back by a 1/4 cup every week until you can.

Re: Bulldog Owners...

that is fine I think!

I have a almost 6 month old bullie and he is about 25 lbs and I give hime 3-4 cups a day, depending on if he gives me big puppy asking for more :)

he gets am and pm feedings. Usually give him more at night so I don't get home to an accident HTH

Re: Bulldog Owners...

I don't have a bulldog but that sounds like way too much food for an adult bulldog unless he is extremely active all day long. Check with your vet and the weight charts on the back of the bag for an idea. All dogs are different though so your dog might need slightly more or less.

I give my 65lb boxer 2 cups of food a day, so that sounds like a bit much for a bulldog.

Thanks everyone. I don't have the bag of food to check the chart b/c we pour it in a big rubbermaid thing, but the next time we pick some up i'll check.

He's about 65-70 pounds. I'm thinking about cutting down by a 1/2 cup per day...just don't wanna starve him.Chat Icon

Hi!

Sarge gets one really full cup a day and all the healthy treats in the world.

The thing with bullys is that most will eat until they literally burst. So, he used to eat one-two cups twice a day. We now cut him down and he has started to graze.

He started (when we rescued him) at 42 pounds and he is now a healthy 55 pounds.

I say cut him down a 1/2 cup.

I have a 2 year old bulldog. he eats 1.5 cups a day of dry food and a few healthy treats. he's not a super active dog. the vet always says he's at the perfect weight.

Thanks again everyone!

When I had my other Bully, I would just keep the food down all day and he would eat whenever he wanted (never more than he should eat). He never over ate, so it wasn't an issue. I could never do that with Boozer, he'd eat all day long if I let him.Chat Icon

My 75 lb American Bulldog gets 1 scoop 2x a day. I need to watch her weight because of her hips.

My Old English Bulldogge is 82 lbs and he just lost 9 lbs this last year because we were feeding him 1.5 cups 2x a day. The vet told us to cut his food and he is good at little over a cup 2x a day. But my smaller one gets 1.5 2x a day and is only 65 lbs but he sometimes skips a meal ever once in a while but it more active.
