bumpers being dangerous?
dh and I are afraif of her bumping her head or getting her leg caught in the crib bars. DH wants to leave her bumpers in. I do too because they are pretty ....DD has turned over onto her belly twice so far - she is 2 mths old. do you ladies have them in or did you not use them or take them out when they were able to flip?? TIA
ETA if you tie them nice and tight are they still a hazard?

Re: bumpers being dangerous?
Jared is 14 months and I still keep them in there. He sleeps in the corners of his crib so I want his little head protected if he bumps himself.

Re: bumpers being dangerous?
I left them in. My DD is 10.5 months old and we haven't had any problems with them so far.

Re: bumpers being dangerous?
Before DD was in her crib we were visiting family and she slept in my nieces crib which did not have bumpers anymore (because my niece is 2). The night I found her with her leg caught in the rails I decided I am keeping her bumpers in there until she starts using them to boost herself up and over the sides. Once they can turn their heads and roll over I wouldn't worry about her face being smushed in the bumpers because they can turn their heads out of it if they need to.

Re: bumpers being dangerous?
Tying tight doesn't eliminate the risk.
I took them out. To me a bump or bruise seemed like no big deal compared to the risk they posed (even if a very small risk, the consequence was huge).

DD is 11 mos. I still have them in; she snuggles against them. I'm not worried since she's mobile.

Re: bumpers being dangerous?
I never removed the bumpers. DD is 20 months old and we never had any issues.

Re: bumpers being dangerous?
I still have them in there. As soon as I put DS in his crib he scoots up to the top to put his head against the bumper. Ours are not very plush so when he tries to stand on them they just crunch down.

We took them out. I found my son pressed up against the corner one night and freaked out.

great question because I still have them in and Shannon is flipping over all the time.. and I was so confused and not sure what to do but I feel comfortable with them in there.

Re: bumpers being dangerous?
I took them out when she first started rolling into them but then a few months later I put them back in because she was putting her legs through the rails.

Re: bumpers being dangerous?
I left them in as Ry would definitely bump his head or stick his arms and legs through the rails. I plan to leave them in also.

Re: bumpers being dangerous?
I don't know why but I have a bumper fear...I never put them in and don't regret it to be honest. It doesn't look as pretty but Talia is a climber, and now that she is standing I am pretty sure she would be using the bumpers to climb out of the crib.

I have a bumper fear also. My family thinks I'm nuts for not having bumpers. I'm paranoid that DD will get stuck up against them- she rolls a bit at 2 weeks old and sleeps on her side. So we don't have bumpers- I will purchase the breathable bumpers from One Step Ahead when we need them- not pretty, but safe.

Re: bumpers being dangerous?
My dd is 16 months and we still have them in because she sleeps with her head right against the railing. I am too nervous about her banging her head. But we tuck them down into the mattress.
