Bunk Bed Help Needed!

I am trying to decide what to do when baby #3 comes. We only have a 3 bedroom house, so 2 kids are going to have to share rooms.

I am thinking of getting bunk beds and having DD who will be 3 sleep on top, and get a rail for the bottom and have DS sleep on bottom, so the new baby will have his/her own room.

Do you think 3 is too young for a top bunk?

I have read that the top bunk should only be for children 6 and older. I forget where, but I believe it was an article in Parents Magazine. Top bunks come with rails, so I dont see how a child could really fall out, but for some reason that is what the AAP recommends.

Re: Bunk Bed Help Needed!

My nephew fell out of his bunk (with a rail) when he was five. He suffered a crack in his skull. I wouldn't recommend them until your children are older!

Maybe get a trundle bed for now. You can pull it out at night and push it back away for when they are awake and they would still have room to play in their room.

I was going to suggest the same thing. I was thinking bunk beds for DD at some point but am starting to like the trundle idea better.

Bunk Beds make me nervous. The twins are 9 and they would still make me nervous if they had bunk beds..I think 3 is too young.
