Here goes that quilted jacket I was going to buy from them...but seriously...its not only Burberry...all designers are guilty of this...unless they use faux fur.

This is true. Pretty much any designer who uses fur more than likely they kill those fur animals and do so in inhumane ways (simply because they are the most cost effective). Chat Icon

I will be much more likely to go to Polo Ralph Lauren now though! "Ralph Lauren, long recognized as a leader in fashion, is now also a leader in compassion after announcing a precedent-setting decision to no longer use fur in any of his apparel or home collections, based purely on ethical grounds." Good to know!

These are good ones too:

PETA Halts J.Crew Campaign as Retail Giant Promises That Fur Is Out
For 11 weeks, PETA's supporters waged a vigorous campaign against retailer J.Crew, capturing headlines and attention throughout the nation, demanding that the chain stop selling fur clothing, fur trim, and fur accessories. This pressure, along with a tremendous outcry from J.Crew's own customers, who were shocked to see that the retailer was supporting the violent and bloody fur industry, paid off on November 30, 2005, when J.Crew confirmed that it will no longer sell fur.

Joining the ranks of top fashion retailers H&M, Forever 21, Gap Inc., Banana Republic, and others that do not sell fur, J.Crew sent a powerful message to the clothing industry that putting rabbits, coyotes, foxes, and other animals through horrible lives and torturous deaths will not be tolerated.

Ann Taylor Drops Fur for Good
After PETA was alerted to fur-trimmed items for sale in Ann Taylor stores, we fired off a letter to the company explaining why fur is cruel and asking that it pledge not to sell fur in the future. In a wonderful victory for animals, Ann Taylor has decided to eliminate all its fur products by fall 2006, thanks to pressure from PETA.

Some of those stores carry leather products. Are the leather products from animals who have been killed humanely? Chat Icon

true. but for some reason people have more compassion for 'furry cute animals' like mink than for cows. There is also the argument that 'they are being eaten anyway so might was well use the leather' - I guess you have to pick and choose your battles and PETA decided to tackle fur first. Chat Icon

I don't think its so much the cute furry animals thing, but more of the second thing you mentioned - that at least the enire animal is being used. When fur is used to make coats, etc. hundreds of animals are needed to make just one coat - the pelt is used and then the rest of the animal is thrown away.

When an animal is caught in the wild for its fur - it could be stuck in a trap for hours or even days, being tortured. Some animals have chewed off their own legs to get out of the traps.

That is a great point!

Although I have definitely had a bunch of people tell me they don't feel bad eating chicken/cows or wearing leather cause cows/chicken are 'ugly' but that they would NEVER wear fur Chat Icon
