Burning Candles and Infants...
Does anyone know if this is bad? I love my candles and always have them burning, then someone said to me it is not healthy for an infant. I use tea lights only in a tart warmer.
Thanks mommies!

Why would this be bad? I could understand if you had a large amount of them burning and the smoke became too much, but, otherwise, I don't see the harm. I always have a candle burning and my grandson is with me everyday.

Re: Burning Candles and Infants...
Someone had said there is a certain chemical that comes from the wick /candle when being burned.
They didn't have all the info.. of course.
Thanks !

Re: Burning Candles and Infants...
My cousin makes and sells natural beeswax candles. When I was pregnant with Sarah, he sent me a whole bunch of info on burning candles around infants. It's been over 2 years since I read it, but from what I remember it basically said that most candles that you can buy in stores today are made of parafin. Parafin has been identified by the EPA as a carcinogen. Plus most candle manufacturers add additional chemicals to enhance the color, scent, burn time, etc.
According to my cousin beeswax candles with cotton wicks are the cleanest burning, followed by soy candles. Obviously he's going to say his product is safe, so I took that statement with a grain of salt.
I thought about what he'd said and made a decision for our family. We all inhale carcinogens every day. You have to decide for yourself if you are going to worry all the time, or if you feel like it's not such a big risk.

Re: Burning Candles and Infants...
I don't see a problem with burning candles. Burning candles AND infants at the same time is not so good....
We don't have candles going all the time, but we do burn them once in a while. We don't light the whole house with them, so the room isn't filled with candle smoke.
Just did a quick google search and found out what the potential problem is: Lead in Candle Wicks
There is lead in some candle wicks, which is causing the problems...... Gotta go check our candles now.... it's always something.
