Burnt Broccoli!

You've gotta try this! I've been trying to make this burnt broccoli that I've eaten at Mother Kelly's restaurant in Cedarhurst - and I think I've finally gotten in right!

First I preheated the oven to 450.

Then I took Italian breadcrumbs and added a few cloves of fresh chopped garlic... then moistened it with EVOO.

I used broccoli crowns and cut the broccoli into long strips (not florets!) leaving the stalk still on.

Then I tossed the broccoli with 3/4 of the breadcrumb mixture, kosher salt, & freshly ground pepper and sauteed in EVOO for a few minutes.

Next I put the broccoli & breadcrumbs into a baking dish and added the remaining breadcrumb mixture on top... cooked at 450 for about 20 minutes, then broiled for another 2-3 minutes.

YUM! It was so good!! Chat Icon

The tips of the broccoli were blackened just a tiny bit, and the stalks (which I normally don't even like) were yummy and very tender!

I have a really stupid question - I never broiled anything before. How is it done? Do I need a broiler? Chat Icon

I made it with chicken Francaise - it married really nicely. You could also do a nice grilled or broiled steak with it! Really.. just anything that you would normally prepare broccoli with as a side! It really is fantastic.
