Butter
If you use stick butter say in a butter dish do you cut from the end or skim the top?

No. It is talking about methods of utensil usage not the consumption of butter.

Usually off the ends, but for toast, I like to skim off the top so you get a thinner pat.

Ok to the OP, If the butter is salted, I skim from the top. If the butter is unsalted, I slice in "pat" form because there is always the possibility that I may use the same stick of butter for a recipe and I cannot measure from a stick that has been "skimmed".

whose butter are we talking about? Our own butter in our home or butter at someone else's house?
In my own house I skim butter off the top. In other people's houses I take from the ends.
