buy/sell/swap post annoyance

How long do you give someone to respond to an email with pics of an item before you sell it to someone else?

I was interested in an item and told the person i was definitely interested in it. she said it was available and couldnt send me pics thru FM. i gave her my email address and she sent the pics later on when i wasnt signed on.

I got the email the next day and asked her when can i pick it up.. i get an email back that it was sold..

are u kidding me? i am not at my computer 24/7.

dont u at least ask someone if they r still interested in it less than 24 hrs later?

eta: the poster is a new poster

Whenever I sell or even give something away for free, I always respond to the first person and I do a follow up if I don't hear from them. If they don't respond, I then contact the 2nd person who sent me an FM.

I don't blame you for being frustrated about it.

I agree, if it hasn't even been 24 hours I would contact the first person at least once to see if they still wanted it. Sorry that happened to you Chat Icon

I have tried several times to buy something off that thread and the people never get back to me. I totally understand your frustration.

Luckily the one time I wanted to sell something, it worked out well.

If I am selling/giving something away, I give almost a week for someone to get back to me with meet-up etc after they've said they were definitely interested, even if I got subsequent emails from other interested posters.

As much as I am looking to get rid of the clutter (because I usually have the items somewhere in the way from taking pictures Chat Icon ), it's not like a fire sale and I'm in such a rush! LOL!

Re: buy/sell/swap post annoyance

On the flip side, I had a buyer say she def. wanted something, but couldn't come pick up, blah,blah... I said I would drop it off at her house, all she needed to do was send address...I sent 5 emails and was ignored. The person never responded to my FMs. Turns out she's done the same and stood others up.

Unfortunately, maybe this seller was burned by the same person and just wanted the fastest pickup. Chat Icon

I'll add I've had enough people tell me they wanted something, they had my address to pick up, I've left the item out on the porch several times, blah blah. Depending on the person (is it a frequent poster? are they "friends" of someone I consider a "friend" here? etc), I'd still give them a chance if they were still interested.

Re: buy/sell/swap post annoyance

I have been really successful stuff on that thread.

That being said, I FM eveyone (granted I did not miss anyone by accident) and tell everyone is someone else is ahead of them and that I will contact them if it falls through. I do give 1-2 days. I can't expect someone to see an email during the day. They may be working. But if you FM me about an item, I FM you back, I am expecting an answer by the following day or 2. Afterthat, I send another courtesy FM and then I move on. I can't wait for 3 days for someone to get back to me. I have but when I have tons of request, I will move on to the next person by 2-3 days.

Same day... yes I am not sure I would like that in your case either. If the person did not want to be bothered with taking pics they just should have said so instead of doing what she did.

As a parent of a newborn, I am grateful that everyone I've dealt with have given me a few days to reply. i just can't get on LIF every day or every few days.

Same experience here & craigslist.

You hold it for someone, pass on others and then you get left with the stuff in your house.

I used to hold, now I get rid of it to the 1st person that responds.

Re: buy/sell/swap post annoyance

I do it first come first serve. Also when the people can pick up helps a lot. If somebody is like "I can't pick up for a week or two, then sorry, I want the items gone asap". But I always am honest and say "I have 3 ppl interested".

Re: buy/sell/swap post annoyance

If someone expresses interest, I wait a full day between FM's.

***I recently went into my profile on LIF and noticed that I can get text messages sent to my cell phone notifying me when I have FM. This is great for me since I'm not on LIF all day. Once I get that text, I log on and can respond quickly.
