Buying a home
I found a home on Long island and would like to make an offer. If we get an accepted offer back can we get an engineer in the house and back out of house if the engineer tells us the house is not a good buy?
The house is a short sale. They are asking $279000 I would like to offer $265000 is that good ?? TIA

Re: Buying a home
First, make any offer contingent on the engineer's inspection. Do the inspection before you sign the contract of sale. You can walk away anytime before you sign the contract.
Next, I would stay away from short sales. They are subject to the seller's bank agreeing to the sale. You could wait months only to find out that the seller's bank won't agree.
Don't expect a bargain on a short sale. The seller's bank wants market value and won't approve a deal if the house is selling below market.
Right now the market is flooded with inventory. There are so many homes for sale, try to find one that's not subject to the seller's bank approval.
Good Luck! Let me know how things go.
