Buying "bigger" toys when it's not their bday or a holiday..
...do you do this? Both my kids are born close the Christmas, which means they get most of their bigger presents during that time of year. I am SO itching to buy my older son a play kitchen, but I can't find a good reason to buy other then I want to! His half birthday is next week, but still.....

The only really "big" present DD has received other than for her b-day & Xmas is when my parents got her a playhouse for Easter.
I did but her a bouncy house that I said was for Xmas last year but never wrapped it and took it out this spring.

Re: Buying "bigger" toys when it's not their bday or a holiday..
DS's birthday was June 26th. His half is Christmas and he was 6 months so he got 9-12 month kind of things. Spring rolled around with warm weather and we had nothing "big" for him to play outside and I did not want to wait for his B'day in the summer. So we got him a nice swing to hang from our front porch and the Little Tikes school bus play thing with a slide. Just because.

Yup, we just bought DS this:
Power Wheels Fisher-Price Lil Kawasaki Boys Sport Quad
and his birthday isn't for 2 months! I just wanted him to have it and I know he'll get a lot of use out of it.

We buy him small and big gifts throughout the year. He doesn't know when his bday or xmas is. I just buy the toys when it is age appropriate for DS. Things will probably change when he is older.

Right now we buy her big and small things all year long..but I think now that she's realizing what "new' things are, I think we may reserve the bigger toys for holidays and birthdays

My kids have birthdays in June and August. We don't reserve things for holidays. If there is something we want to get them we do. This is such a fun age to be buying them toys. I'm sure as they get older it will be different.
