Re: Buying buttermilk
Yup, I just bought some and it's where the regular milk is. If you can't find it, you can make fake buttermilk by adding lemon juice to regular milk. My mom used to do this sometimes.
To make pretend buttermilk, add 1-3/4 tablespoons of cream of tartar to a cup of milk, or add a tablespoon of lemon juice or white vinegar to a cup of milk and let it stand for 5 to 10 minutes. In many baking recipes, you can also just use plain yogurt or sour cream instead of buttermilk.

Re: Buying buttermilk
In my grocery store it is more by the half and half and whipping cream. They are not exactly next to the milk. Kinda close though.

Re: Buying buttermilk
Sour cream is also a substitute for buttermilk. The ratio is the same.

that's what I had to do because my little Stop and Shop did not carry the refrigerated version.
