C-section moms...hospital stay?
How many nights did you spend in the hospital?
I spent 4 nights after Katherine was born.
I have a c/s scheduled for my due date in May (although VBAC before that is a possibility still) and I was thinking of staying only 3 nights this time, particularly because I *have* Katherine and am going to miss her like crazy. On the other hand, maybe I should take the extra night's rest (although after the surgery, I don't think I slept well any night there).
So, what did you do and do you have any pros or cons for me?

Re: C-section moms...hospital stay?
I spent 4 nights in the hospital after DD was born 2 weeks ago. Plus, I spent 1 night prior to birth for induction. Honestly, I welcomed the last night in the hospital, and as a first time mom, seeing how hectic having a newborn is, I am glad I stayed the last night, even if it was just to get the extra rest and have the nursery take care of her the last night

I spent 4 nights but I could have gotten out after 3 nights. I only stayed because Andrew was in NICU.

Re: C-section moms...hospital stay?
Stay AS LONG AS YOU CAN!!!! Yes, you will miss your daughter but you will need the time to yourself and the help with the baby without a toddler around. I was out in 3 days with Emma, 4 days with Jeremy and 5 with Lucas. If I have another baby I am going to ask them to build me a room at the hospital so I never have to leave

Re: C-section moms...hospital stay?
I also wanted to stay as little as possible because I have another son, but still had to stay the 4 nights. In my experience my wound hurt more the 2nd time around. It even took longer to heal. I would suggest for you to stay the 4 nights, this way you can rest a little before you go home.

Re: C-section moms...hospital stay?
I would stay as long as you can, especially after a c/s and with a toddler at home. As much as you will miss her, your body needs time to heal and recover. Too much too soon will not be too good.
Good Luck on the VBAC. Best thing ever for me.

Re: C-section moms...hospital stay?
we used the time to gather tons of info from the nurses (well, the good ones at least) and the pediatricians. we actually left the hospital confident we could get through the next day or two!

This was me, exactly. I couldn't spend another day in that hospital bed or I'd go crazy. Do you have to decide now? Or can't you wait and see how you feel? The first night doesn't count anyway because they consider that surgery day.

Re: C-section moms...hospital stay?
I spent 3 nights in the hospital while having a 4 and a 1/2 year old at home. As much as I wanted to get home, looking back staying one more night would have been fine too. I really needed to rest....the pain was unbearable once the Percosets wore off. And DS didnt miss me as much as I missed him.

Re: C-section moms...hospital stay?
I stayed 4 nights and had the choice to stay one more night. I was dying to get home with my baby, but next time I plan on staying as long as they let me. I didn't have an easy recovery and they didn't give me an prescipt. pain killers, it was Advil for me.

Re: C-section moms...hospital stay?
I was in 5 nights because Bryan decided to come the next day via c section. I had the chance to leave on the 5th day, but, my choice I stayed an extra night. Doctors agreed to because I have everything upstairs in my house, including bathroom. The extra night helped a bit.

Re: C-section moms...hospital stay?
HOw helpful is your dh??? I found I was more comfy at home. The nurses inthe nursery were just not helpful. I had to sit up all night with ds my last night there. Next time around I am leaving in 3 nights.

Re: C-section moms...hospital stay?
I stayed 4 nights, and if I had the option to stay an extra I probably would have. My docs usually discharge after 3 nights but I had the epidural in a day longer than most, so everything got pushed back a day. I'm really glad I stayed the 4th night. Like I said, if I could have stayed 1 more I would have. By that time I was feeling just about back to normal.

Re: C-section moms...hospital stay?
I went in on Saturday, had Jeremy at 1:50 AM on Sunday morning, left on Thursday afternoon. The doctors were hesitant to allow me to leave any earlier because of some complications I had durng delivery. DH and I already discussed what we are going to do about Jeremy for the next one

Re: C-section moms...hospital stay?
4 nights & the second time around I needed it. (not sure if it was because there were 2)
Make sure your husband brings Katherine in everyday. It won't be the same but, you it makes you feel better. I made sure that John brought Patrick in even if it was for an hour.

Re: C-section moms...hospital stay?
I went home 1 night early and can honestly say....I probably should've stayed that extra night. The hospital wasn't all that comfortable BUT, trying to sleep in my own bed that 1st night was a disaster. I had such a hard time. The 1st 2 nights I was home, I slept in a chair. I would stay and get as much sleep as possible. JMO
