Cable, Dish Network, DirecTV, HELP!
Hi my friends,
Can anyone please give me a recommendation on which is better. Both for us and my parents.
Cable is changing over to IO Digital and we are ALL going to be forced into it, I heaf from Cable themselves. They are saying it is going to cost around $70 a month just for basic TV??
Are they sick????????? Sorry if you all think I am cheap, but that is insane..
So we are starting to look now at DirectTV and Dish. Dish seems to be the most economcial, but how is the service?? Or is there anything else out there I don't know about? :)
Can someone PLEASE help me. What do you all have?? Thanks, Denise

I am only familiar with cable but I am switching over to IO this week and it is only $10 more a month than my regular service. If you go on cablevision.com, you can see the price break-downs. The highest tier of IO is about that price.

Re: Cable, Dish Network, DirecTV, HELP!
My mom and I both have Directv. My signal is a little stronger than hers, I guess I have a better angle to the satellite? We've only lost the signal a few times in really bad rain or snow, and since my Optonline was down too, I know that cable was out as well. We both really love it.

We have the DirectTV and we love it. We definately get more for our $$ vs. having digital cable. And have not had any problems with losing a signal.

Re: Cable, Dish Network, DirecTV, HELP!
we have always had DirecTV and never a complaint. You can randomly call up and ask what promotions they have for the movie channels...we had HBO for 6 months at $2 a month.
MY BIL & SIL had Dish for a short time...they got it for the Yankee games but he got so ticked off because it ended up VERY FEW of the games were actually on for him to watch. He immediately switched to DirecTV (I'm talkin' within a week or so of getting Dish).
For basic we pay $41.99 a month. Tivo is another $4.99 a month and we are considering the high def with is ANOTHER $10.99 a month

We have DirecTV and love it. Like other posts said, unless there's a bad storm you may lose a picture but its been really good. I like it so much better than cable.

We just switched from Direct tv... we were already optonline customers and were still eligible for the $99 triple play promotion. We loved Direct tv but could beat the deal. We'll be saving $93.00 a month!! once the promo is over we'll still be saving over $50 a month.

Where are you seeing over $70 a month?
Family Cable & Broadcast Basic Family Cable $32.41 (Price does not include subscription to Broadcast Basic) Broadcast Basic $14.54
Pay for both Family and Broadcast and you get a ton of channels.
And can't you still get just Broadcast Basic cable service even after they convert to all digital? They may not eagerly offer this since they want to make money... but it should still be an option.

We added Optium phone service and it's only an additional $15.00 a month so there are definitely promotions for current customers.

Re: Cable, Dish Network, DirecTV, HELP!
Since Cable went digital, we've had several problems with our picture getting stuck and freezing up and with it being scrambled. It seems to happen on several channels. Sometimes we will be watching a movie and just when its almost over the stupid thing acts up. Its very frustrating.

You need a new box....same thing happened with us. You can just bring it to any center and they will replace it.

It figures. Everything we get is always broken. We just have that kind of luck. Other people will have things for years, we always get the defective ones.

Re: Cable, Dish Network, DirecTV, HELP!
My paretns have Direct TV because they wanted Turner Classic movies and for some reason Cable doesn't carry it (they also don't carry BBC America ) but they are very happy with it. I think its about $40/month
My mother-in-law has Dish and I don't like it. It always seems to be going in and out, but she is in a rural location, so that could be the reason.
We have always been happy with cable, but my husband's job pays for Opt-online, so I don't mind.

Re: Cable, Dish Network, DirecTV, HELP!
We JUST switched to DirecTV a couple of days ago. We did it on a recommendation. Our optonline will go up $5/month now but it's still cheaper overall. The only thing we lost is channel 12 because Cablevision owns it but we never watched it anyway.
