Cablevision customers...so will it reall happen?
Part of me wants to stay up to midnight to see if ABC really goes off.
Honestly I don't fully understand the issue and am sure both sides are partly at fault although I wonder why only Cablevision seems to have these problems. I will be so annoyed to lose a channel I thought was free in the first place

Re: Cablevision customers...so will it reall happen?
it is rare that it happens..usually a last minute contract has been drawn up where both parties have agreed..this happened last year with viacom & timewarner
but since cablevision has kind of stuck to its guns with hgtv and foodnetwork recently, who knows..
i think both parties are at fault; it's all greed & the only person who suffers is the consumer
i also wanna see what happens at midnight...

I think ABC is counting on them caving in since the Oscars will be on.

Re: Cablevision customers...so will it reall happen?
My husband works in television and he said there is no way ABC will be allowed to pull out before the Oscars because the sponsors will FLIP OUT if there's an entire market their ads are not reaching. Right after that, it's supposed to off.

Re: Cablevision customers...so will it reall happen?
Is it supposed to be at midnight, or at 5am? (Technically, the broadcast day doesn't start until 5am.) It's a stupid rule, but the Saturday 3/6 broadcast day goes until 4:59am. Is the contract real days or broadcast days?

Re: Cablevision customers...so will it reall happen?
It just so happens that Cablevision had contracts up with 2 networks this year. Many LIers may have forgotten this happened with Fox and Time Warner just before the Scripps fiasco. But Time Warner and Fox began negotiations so the channel was never lost.
Basically it comes down to ABC wanting more money since their contract is up and also having less advertisers or advertisers paying less.
If this does happen, anyone that is a Cablevision customer should call them and demand a reduction in their montly bill or a refund for losing this channel. They will compensate since they aren't collecting from this network. Please don't expect your entire cable bill to be paid, but $3 off is still better than nothing. If you aren't going to call for the refund, then don't complain. Cablevision is providing not only ABC as a clear channel, but NBC, CBS, FOX, WPIX and other channels you can get through rabbit ears.
ETS: I don't work for Cablevision nor does anyone one in my family or my friends! I'm just stating facts!

Alrighty then. Guess the lack of channel 7 has answered my above question.

This is a good point!
I wonder if things will be settled right before the Oscars.

GO CABLEVISION!!!! Way to not give in to ABC!
ABC is a FREE channel on the airwaves, they have plenty of commercials and they are subject to FCC regulations.
Therefore, they belong to the public and cannot charge such an OUTRAGEOUS amount of money to cable providers.
It's nice to see a Long Island company standing up to one of these massive, greedy giants!

Yeah, this is what I don't understand. I believe they have other cable channels, right? But channel 7 is supposed to be free.

Even though they are under one umbrella company (ABC Disney), I would think that they all are run separately with different contracts.

I'm confused - if Cablevision is paying the other channels like NBC and CBS, why shouldn't ABC be paid too? Why does that make them selfish?

Re: Cablevision customers...so will it reall happen?
ABC did on purpose because of the Oscars, not a doubt in my mind.
The company's previous contract with Cablevision expired more than two years ago, but it was extended month by month as talks continued.
They could of stopped at anytime and chose right before the Oscars.

They already do pay them, they want 40 million more!
