CAC and taxes?

Eventually down the road we would like to put CAC in our house. I heard from someone that it raises your taxes...is this true? I can't see how CAC would because you aren't building on your house, but then again...everything raises taxes!!!

My understanding is that if you are playing by the rules - you have to get a permit for the CAC. Therefore, knowing how things work on LI it will raise your taxes but I can't believe it would be by too much.

Re: CAC and taxes?

I have never heard of this. I had CAC installed a month ago and I did not need a permit, nor did I have to inform the town. This is work done inside your home. You are not elarging the sf of your home.

It may differ in different townsChat Icon

We got ours done last November and we are in the Town of Huntington. My FIL is a contractor and he would have mentioned this to us. No permit needed.

When we were looking at a home in Merrick we went to the Town of Hempstead to inquire about permits and they confirmed that CAC needs a permit. If you install the CAC without one and something happens to the home as a result of the CAC, insurance won't cover it. That's what we were told. My BIL lives in Massapequa and he confirmed that when he installed his CAC, he got a permit.

Interesting. I guess when the time comes I will have to confirm with the Town of Babylon.

Re: CAC and taxes?

I dont know about the taxes being raised...I effing hope not. I told me DH we should just install without the permit (which is so NOT how I usually handle stuff)---5 weeks later, we have all the ductwork installed but still no "permit" for the CAC. I am so peeved right now---Im in Town of Oyster Bay. SOrry to vent here but I just needed to..

We had our CAC installed 12 months ago and didn't have to get a permit in the Town of Islip. We had our gas conversion done at the same time by the same contractor and we did get a permit for that. We also had no increase to our taxes other than the 10% increase due to the school budget getting passed a few weeks ago.

I am so f'ing annoyed right now - the building inspector from GC came and shut down my a/c work as we didn't get a permit. I am 7 months pregnant, have a 12 month old, and am moving into the house Thursday. Its going to be 90 and humid this week - this is terrible timing!

Re: CAC and taxes?

We're also in the Town of Islip and your taxes do go up. We don't have CAC but are thinking of installing it. Our neighbor, who has the same house we have, said his taxes went up about $600 for the year. That is, of course, if the town finds ou t about it. I don't know if we need a permit.
