Caffeine...
What is your average caffeine intake per day (during pregnancy)? I'm not sure how much is too much, I've heard so many different things. TIA.

Re: Caffeine...
I used to drink up to 4 cups of coffee a day...now, I'm down to 2 cups of DECAF coffee. I don't drink soda anymore and for any drink I make sure it's a decaf.
They say that there still is caffeine even in the decaf stuff.
Even chocolate has caffeine
Moderation is the key.

Re: Caffeine...
I was drinking a cup of coffee every morning until recently. I didn't drink soda at all during the first two trimesters (because I had given it up long before getting PG). Then suddenly in my third trimester I couldn't get enough soda.
When I started with the soda, I just sort of naturally stopped wanting the morning coffee so it kinda balanced itself out.
The most I've ever had in one day I think is one cup of coffee and 2 glasses of soda. I don't count any chocolate I eat because the amount of caffeine in chocolate is negligible. I believe the maximum amount of caffeine that is safe is around 600 milligrams per day - but don't quote me on that. I also agree that moderation is key.

Re: Caffeine...
normally--NONE. but once in awhile I'll sip DH pepsi or I'll treat myself to a sweet tea when we go out to eat or something.
I was told the equivalent to 3 cups of coffee a day was ok.

Re: Caffeine...
A cup of tea is my intake. For the most part I've been drinking water.

Re: Caffeine...
Before being pregnant I used to have a cup of coffee every morning and a soda with every meal. Now I don't drink coffee any more (except on rare occasions when I just can't wake up) and if I have soda, I try to make it caffeine-free.

Re: Caffeine...
I don't drink caffeine on a daily basis. Maybe every 2 days I have a 12oz cup of coffee from 7-11. I was drinking coffee a bit more when I was getting bad migranes, the caffeine was helping. I don't drink soda and dont eat much chocolate.

Re: Caffeine...
I was never a big coffee drinker to begin with, so now I never have any. It's so essential, especially during the summer, to drink LOADS and LOADS of water, so that's pretty much all I have these days... once in a while I'll have a cup of hot cocoa....

Re: Caffeine...
I usually drink caffeine free soda but if we go out I have regular (no more than one glass), I've never liked coffee or tea much so those I don't drink at all (unless I'm sick I have some tea), I do eat chocolate - whenever I can get my hands on it and once in a while I'll have hot chocolate.
I was always under the assumption that up to 2 (or three not sure) cups of coffee a day were OK (and soda has lots less caffeine than coffee) but we started our birthing class the other night and the nurse made it sound like ALL caffeine was bad. She said you could tell right away which babies (in the nursery) had mothers that had any caffeine and which did not. Now DH keeps ALL caffeine away from me :(.....but I still sneak in the chocolate
FYI - the nurse also told us that Mountain Dew and Orange soda had the most caffeine. Cola's have much less

Re: Caffeine...
I used to drink 16 oz of coffee in the morning before I was PG, I totally stopped drinking caffeine as soon as I found out, but then I was starting to get headaches, so now I just drink it about 8-12 oz in the am and that's it...Actually I usually don;t even finish it.

Re: Caffeine...
I probably a weekly average intake not daily. I wasn't a coffe or soda drinker so I just have a coke a few times a week whether it be for a craving or to get the baby moving (that seems to work best).

You will find that some nurses/Doctors are much more strict. Funny how the husbands are ALWAYS there to hear there advise. My husband heard some advice from the Dr who did my sonogram & he thinks what she says is golden!
I had a feeling about Mountain Dew my husband used to love it but, he'd have the craziest dreams if he drank to much.

My doctor said the same thing - 3 cups maximum per day.
I need my morning coffee, so I have one cup every morning. I will have the occasional soda, or extra cup of coffee w/dessert if I am out to dinner or something.

Re: Caffeine...
I had severe migraines during pregnancy - both my OB and my neurologist suggested that I keep the caffeine in my diet. Towards the end they were so severe that I had to take fioricet (which is mostly caffeine) daily. I did go into labor 5 weeks early (which my DR says is totally unrelated - but I still have my doubts and guilt) -- but thank God, Cole is very healthy and an amazingly calm easy going baby considering.
