Caiden won't stop climbing in bed with us!

My DH "let" my son lay in bed with me one night. (I was sleeping) Ever since then Caiden won't stop climbing in bed with us in the middle of the night. I've always been against having them sleep in our bed. Too dangerous and not enough room. Also he beats you up while he sleeps! Chat Icon What can I do to get him to stop wanting to come into our bed? Is it just a phaze? (sp?) Thanks!

ETA: He's 3 yrs old! Chat Icon

Why not put a gate in his doorway? He may cry the first night or so, but he should get back into his routine pretty quickly.

We've tried that, and that's what we used to do. Now since he's so tall he just climbs over it! Chat Icon And you can't put it too high because then he climbs under it! Chat Icon

Turn the doorknob around so the lock is on the outside and lock his door.

I would NOT lock my child in his room. What if there is an emergency, or he gets sick, or he has to use the bathroom???

Everytime he comes into the bed I would pick him up and put him right back into his bed ( Only the first time would I tell him that he has to sleep in his own bed - after that don't talk to him at all)
He will get the hint and give up

A three year old wandering around the house in the middle of the night poses a lot more danger than the need for a of a middle of the bathroom run. JMO

I think locking a child into his/her room is a little EXTREME. She never said her child was wandering around the house - just going into his parents room.
My son is 4 and has never wandered around the house in the middle of the night.

Can you lock the door to your room and then put a gate blocking entrance to the rest of the house so the only place he can go is either his room or the hallway?

(I'm not sure how your house is set up...)

OK, so I'm totally going to sound like a complete loser with no life, but I remember one time when Diane Sawyer visited those Dilly Septuplets that they had to put 2 gates up (one on top of the other) since the kids were giving each other boosts to get over them. They said they had tried everything, including greasing the slats on the gate and they were still able to get over until they put 2 up.

That always struck me as funny, until I had a kid and realized just how resourceful they become!
