Re: cake help!
I make a semi-homemade chocolate cake that is to die for!!!
I like to make it with vanilla frosting too, and since I make 2 round cakes... I layer in the middle raspberry jam and fresh raspberries- so that could be your fruit element if you wanted. (but I do the fruit layer with chocolate frosting. I don't know how the vanilla frosting would taste with the raspberry layer because I have no tried it).
Ingredients: -1 box (18.25 oz) chocolate cake mix -1 box (4 to 6 oz) chocolate instant pudding and pie mix -1 container (8 oz.) sour cream -Chocolate Syrup -4 large eggs -1/2 cup vegetable oil -1/2 cup warm water -2 cups (at least!) of assorted dark chocolate chips
-frosting (of your choice) -Raspberry Preserves and Raspberries or other filling of your choice (optional) -Decorations of your choice like chocolate sprinkles, chocolate chips or hard sugared candies (optional)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Take out two 9-inch round cake pans and grease them. Combine all ingredients and blend together well. Stir in chocolate chips and pour into pans. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes or until a wooden toothpick comes out clean. Cool. If you are using filling, Spread on top of one cake and place the other cake on top of filling. Then frost the entire cake. Decorate.

Re: cake help!
This is the chocolate cake recipe I use. It's super moist and delicious.
Butter, for greasing the pans 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for pans 2 cups sugar 3/4 cups good cocoa powder 2 teaspoons baking soda 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 teaspoon kosher salt 1 cup buttermilk, shaken 1/2 cup vegetable oil 2 extra-large eggs, at room temperature 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract 1 cup freshly brewed hot coffee
Directions Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Butter two 8-inch x 2-inch round cake pans. Line with parchment paper, then butter and flour the pans.
Sift the flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, and salt into the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with a paddle attachment and mix on low speed until combined. In another bowl, combine the buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla. With the mixer on low speed, slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry. With mixer still on low, add the coffee and stir just to combine, scraping the bottom of the bowl with a rubber spatula. Pour the batter into the prepared pans and bake for 35 to 40 minutes, until a cake tester comes out clean. Cool in the pans for 30 minutes, then turn them out onto a cooling rack and cool completely.
Vanilla frosting is perfectly fine. If you want to incorporate fruit, strawberries or raspberries go really well with chocolate cake. Another suggestion would be a mocha frosting, which pairs well with this cake.
