Calling home from Mexico cell phone vs calling card

We are traveling later this month and will need to check on my ILs and our doggies. What is everyone's thoughts on using my cell (AT&T 30 for 80 minutes) vs getting a calling card. And if I do the calling card where do I get one? I am stressing over this.

My ILs travel to Mexico once a year with friends and they use Skype for non-video calls. They find that to be the most reasonable.

Be careful with calling cards. we bought one with us to mexico and could not use it. (unfortunately I cannot remember why). If you opt for a calling card just make sure you can use it calling US from Mexico.
